Well, I'll try. Not only do I not find Tim Allen funny (all he used to do in his stand-up routine was grunt and for some reason that caught on with a lot of the high school drop out crowd), he's also a convicted felon. Even after he was released and started his "comedy" career, I believe he was arrested again at least once for drunk driving. Despite this, Disney (Walt Disnery would turn over in his grave) keeps hiring him. I don't care how good the movie might be, I don't like to look at his face.

The same goes for Adam Sandler. I always thought he was the least funny person I had ever seen on SNL. All he'd do is talk and/or sing in this weird falsetto voice and people would laugh. Despite this he somehow became a "movie star". I won't support him.

I see no difference in ability between either of these two and Jeff Foxworthy. But for some reason, their 15 minutes keeps going.

I don't watch movies with Julia Roberts in it...
I also dislike most musicals.

Jboone 12-22-04 10:49 PM

No Kevin Costner
No Meg Ryan
anything else I'm pretty open to

Jericho 12-22-04 11:08 PM

There's nothing I won't watch as a blanket group. That just seems stupid to rule out an entire section of movies based on an actor or actress since each movie is different (and the roles are different). But the one genre I generally don't like is horror. Although a lot of movies walk the line between horror and other genres. But the ones I generally don't care for are the straight horror flicks like Friday the 13th or Nightmare on Elm Street movies.

Otherwise, I can't say there's anything I generall dislike. Even snuff. Go snuff!

Quake1028 12-23-04 12:16 AM

Wow, some of you are EXTREMELY close-minded.

Dabaomb 12-23-04 02:00 AM

Now that I've thought about it, I usually won't watch Chick Flicks (e.g. White Oleander, Banger Sisters, Bridget Jones, etc)

DeputyDave 12-23-04 04:55 AM

I refuse to watch anything that glorifies, promotes, condones, or features smoking.
Smokers... bleh!

Jesus, you guys really, really hate anime. But I don't see how you can really define anime as an entire genre...it's like saying that you won't eat food anymore because corndogs make you hurl. There are different types of genres within anime; for instance, there's sci-fi, comedy, romantic comedy, drama (with absolutely no giant robots or girls in sailor suits fighting monsters at all) and so on and so forth. I think most people just think of goofy shows like Pokemon that are more geared toward kids rather than adults.

So it's not that fair to lump all anime into one 'genre'.

Why, that's god-damned un-American! :p :D

But anyway, I'm not that big of a fan of anime, but I'd watch it if the animation is decent.

I also won't watch any of Michael Moore's bullshit-umentaries.

I'm also not real big into comedies. I used to be back in the '80s and early '90s, but in today's more serious times, comedies just don't do it for me. I enjoy films and TV shows about the fight between good and evil.

Horror/slasher-type movies also don't do anything for me. Sci-fi horror like Aliens and say Resident Evil are alright, but Dawn of the Dead stuff is just not for me.

Oh, and chick-flicks...you can't get me anywhere near those snooze-fests.

- what i call 'cloak and dagger' movies - anything with knights, medieval times, romans, great alexanders... there has been a rash of those recently)
OMG, why? Those are some of my favorite genres. There's been some good Roman-era movies lately; Gladiator (2000), Attila (2001), Spartacus (2004).

I don't deny that there are probably some well made films I will never see b/c of my hatred for these people, but I wouldn't enjoy any of them b/c of those actors. Those people I listed I just can't stand, so they keep me from enjoying anything they are in. I wish I didn't feel that way but I can't help it. And it really doesn't limit what I watch at all, there are SOOOOO many films, it's pretty easy avoiding a few b.c of a few people I despise. You can see I have quite a few DVDs, not even everything is listed, & having no interests in the films of these people hardly limits what I buy & enjoy.

Also, these actors are truly the ones that I will NEVER see anything else they are in. There are lots of actors I can't stand, Jim Carrey, Denzel Washington, Julia Roberts & on & on, & I usually avoid there stuff, but I don't boycott them or anything. I loved Closer & ESOTSM. But those on my list, boycott is definitely the word.

Shawshank Redemption is a classic though & my one exception. Sean Penn political views aside, I also think is maybe the most overrated actor in hollywood.

NOW, if anyone is still reading this, all I names are a few actors, which I don't think is close minded at all. What is close minded are people naming into GENRES. That just makes no sense, there are certainly genres I don't care for, but to say for the sake of this thread, that you would NEVER watch a Romantic comedy (clearly these people aren't married or in long term relationships, sometimes you just have to compromise), or a Western (that just breaks my heart), I find very hard to believe.

Drexl 12-23-04 10:47 PM

Anything live-action with Tim Allen.

Now, it's not that I don't like him ("Home Improvement" was a funny show), but so far he hasn't starred in a movie I would be interested in seeing.

I have some thoughts in this thread that people are probably scratching their heads about too, but I've always thought Sean Penn was the most underated actor in Hollywood. I've never seen him not be believable.

Oliver Stone

While I agree wholeheartedly with your statement, the only Oliver Stone film that doesn't seem to sway away from historical accuracy (in at least the typical portrayal of how it was) is 1986's Platoon. The rest of Stone's films are garbage, although I will buy Aelxander just for the subject matter.

His JFK was about as much bullshit as most of Michael Moore's stuff.

i can't tell if your being sarcastic or not...do you happen to have a link to your collection?

jetflair 12-24-04 10:24 PM

Horror films. I will watch a few that are really action movies in disguise, like Resident Evil 2 and Van Helsing, but that's it. Also any other grusome stuff like Irrevesible, Salo, etc. I basically will not watch any disturbing movie, and I'm easily disturbed:)

tofu 12-25-04 01:40 AM

I'll watch most stuff except for Japanese horror. That stuff freaks me out. I also try and stay away from movies involving pop divas like Glitter.

well actually austria is chock-full of roman catholics and people say 'gruess gott' (greet god) as a way of saying hallo all the time.

judging from your posts i can see that your political opinion is completely different than mine - i won't debate you, that's not what a dvd forum is for.

Am I being an exclusionist, yes, but, I reckon I would rather re-watch The Umbrellas of Cherbourg than view The Waterboy for the first time.

Everyone is selective in their viewing choices, not everyone discounts ENTIRE GENRES though, and to do so is small-minded and sad.

I stand by my decision to not watch kiddie porn or snuff, sir, whether you think that's sad or not!
