I'm still waiting for the Rockford Files that was announced last year.

I think it was actually announced in 2002, and was supposed to be out in 2003. I, too, am annoyed.

The Monkees 12-21-04 09:06 PM

BTTF SE!!! YEA! :D

But American Pie 4, never heard of that happening....direct to video?

bboisvert 12-21-04 09:56 PM

First, keep in mind that this is Universal. Half of these titles won't even come out. Ever.

Second, no one's asking the question, even though everyone seems excited about it. *What* Alfred Hitchcock Presents is this? The original? Or the 1980s re-do?

Mountain Biker 12-21-04 10:11 PM

Back to the Future, Casino, The Jerk, AHP, American Pie 4...excellent

basaro 12-22-04 12:01 AM

This is nice to know but it is Universal, so they'll manage to screw most of these up or never release them. At least I can still hope for more updates on...

It's about damn time on these:
Casino (Anniversary Edition)
The Deer Hunter (Special Edition)
The Jerk (Widescreen? SE)
The Sting (Widescreen? Special Edition)

Other good stuff to consider:
To Kill A Mockingbird (SE)
Coal Miner's Daughter (Anniversary Edition)
The Big Lebowski (SE)

Thanks for the post.

buckee1 12-22-04 12:09 AM

Columbo S2 :D

randyba 12-22-04 12:32 AM

I will be buying alot of these, but I was hoping that Kindergarden cop and Twins would be on this list for OAR SE's

Twins! I saw this on tv the other day for the first time in a long time, and forgot how funny/good it was. I didn't realize how many cleavage shots they had in it too. ;) Go Arnie!

Pasolini 12-22-04 12:39 PM

forgive my ignorance, but I'm not at home to look at my 12 monkeys disc:

What's wrong with the old one? If I remember correctly it is already packed with tons of special features (docs, commentary, etc). Is it non-anamorphic perhaps? (i haven't watched it since I upgraded to large screen)

They announced an SE of 12 Monkeys a while back - it was going to be a 2-disc set - basically the same exact thing as the old disc, only with DTS, which would put the documentary on the 2nd disc and it'd also have deleted scenes not on the old disc - but they never got around to releasing it.

I assume this is what the new SE will be.

Yes, it's DTV. Eugene Levy is the only cast member returning, and it will follow Stiffler's brother's adventures in band camp.

I suppose it's too early for a features list, right? I'm wondering if I should sell my R2 'Deer Hunter' disc with the Cimino commentary.

Scott716 12-22-04 02:02 PM

Hmm..are they ever going to re-release The Frighteners, thought for sure that was coming soon.

HistoryProf 12-22-04 02:17 PM

The Big Lebowski (SE)
The Deer Hunter (SE)
The Jerk (SE)
The Sting (SE)
To Kill a Mocking Bird (SE)

Hot diggity...there's a handful of non-anamorphic titles I'll be happy to upgrade.

Nothing wrong with the old one. Universal simply has a habit of releasing newer editions (sometimes more inferior) just for the $$. Take a look at the specs of the upcoming Apollo 13, which is inferior than the older one IMO.

Damien666Omen 12-22-04 07:22 PM

Dunno if this has been asked in this thread or not but is Alfred Hitchcock Presents Season 1 the original one from the 50's-60's or the ones from the late 80's?

No Backdraft (SE) = No sale. :D

No, but anyway...I don't have any of those titles, but the Casino (SE) looks tempting.

I used to have the Deer Hunter VHS and quite frankly, I never finished watching the thing. I got bored shortly after the beginning Vietnam scene. So I don't know if I'll ever buy that film.

LorenzoL 12-23-04 05:56 AM

I'll definitely get The Sting SE and Casino

I'm holding on to mine - it's listed as a UK Exclusive, and is quite good.

There's nothing to fix. II and III were the misframed ones.

I'm pretty sure he meant the trilogy as a whole. Or is it only the first movie being re-relesed?

Cameron 12-27-04 01:33 PM

is there a coen brother movie coming out to tie in with big lebowski

QuiGonJosh 12-27-04 01:35 PM

damn it! Where's the 3-Disc The Frighteners at? With all the success that PJ has had, you'd think Uni would be smart enough to give us what we want!

Red Dog 12-27-04 01:46 PM

Where the fuck are more seasons of Law & Order????

I noticed that too, but I wasn't sure if it meant that it was produced exclusively for the UK or just that the UK was, as of that printing, the only place to have it. I wouldn't expect them to produce a new commentary track...

but it's some kind of weird deal where one company has domestic distribution (Universal, obviously) and another one (WB, if memory serves) has foreign, right?

I'd imagine it'll be released in 2006, to tie in with the 'King Kong' DVD release, and the tenth anniversary of 'The Frighteners'.

But I hope it's sooner too.

joliom 12-27-04 06:25 PM

ViewAskewbian is right; before we all get too excited we might want to consider the "new" Apollo 13: Anniversary Edition or the latest incarnation of Meet the Parents as examples of Universal's continuing committment to quality. We might get a Big Lebowski "the dude abides edition" that is the old disc with 2 added deleted scenes and 20 new forced trailers added, or a Deer Hunter "extreme nam edition" with a badly misframed wisescreen cut, or a 12 Monkeys "totally trapped in time edition" with a new "rapper's reflect" doc and no DTS.

Cameron 12-27-04 06:41 PM

i was hoping for backdraft same day as ladder 49

could 12 monkeys go criterion with many of the other terry gilliam films? Warner has the rights to the short film it is based off of...(it appeared on short 2 dreams)

lets hope we get better fare on these rereleases than the newest dvds churned out

DonnachaOne 12-28-04 12:23 AM

Looking forward to widescreen SEs...

Myster X 12-28-04 12:26 AM

Deer Hunter  yesssssssssssssss..............

fryinpan1 12-28-04 08:17 AM

I am looking forward to
12 Monkeys
Casino (Anniversary Edition)
The Deer Hunter (SE)

However, since this is Universal, I will wait for disc specs and reviews before I get too excited.

mikewendt 12-28-04 08:44 AM

I really still can't believe they made this...
American Pie 4

Is it going to be something different from the original box or just the reformatted discs?
Back to the Future (SE)

The rest of these I'm fucking thrilled to be able to get!!!
Casino (Anniversary Edition)
Las Vegas (seasons 1 and 2)
Miami Vice (season 1)
The Big Lebowski (SE)
The Deer Hunter (SE)
The Jerk (SE)

jdpatri 12-28-04 09:04 AM

Alfred Hitchcock Presents (season 1)
The Big Lebowski (SE)
The Jerk (SE)
The Sting (SE)

...shall be mine.
