I am getting the new Where the Red Fern Grows for my mom for Christmas.
I will probably pick up Napoleon Dynamite, Manchurian Candidate and King Arthur(just to see Kiera Knightly) later on.

Napoleon: I haven't seen it yet but I heard that it's either a movie that you'll love or hate, not much middle ground

Thanks,i may do that then.

I don't get this Napolean Dynamite thing. I read the DVDTalk review for it and it only gave it a "Rent it" recommendation.

On that point, I'm only getting King Arthur - DC. But I've got Andromeda v4.3 on the way as of Thursday as well.

What don't you get? Why all the people who thoroughly enjoyed the movie are buying it, or why a reviewer who didn't it enjoy it as much only recommended a rental?

If you haven't seen it, it's worth a look. I went into it expecting it to be a third-rate wannabe of (equal parts) Wes Anderson and Todd Solondz, and while it was admittedly derivative of their works to some extent, it had it's own thing going on. I was totally entertained the whole time, and honestly, I haven't seen too many movies this year that were more enjoyable. You might just be surprised...

I would disagree with your source. I think that if you don't like offbeat movies, then you'll probably hate it, and if offbeat is all that matters to you, then you'll love it. But if, like many people on this forum, you've seen tons of movies--mainstream, cult, foreign--then I think the offbeatness of the movie becomes just one aspect of it and it's easy to find a middle ground. I appreciated a lot of what the movie tried to do, and I also thought it fell flat a lot. The character was interesting and memorable, but the movie often substituted irony for sincerity. All around, I'd say the combination of love-hate elements coalesce into a slightly above-average film. I'd watch it again, but I wouldn't buy it.

I don't get all the love for it.

If you haven't seen it, it's worth a look. I went into it expecting it to be a third-rate wannabe of (equal parts) Wes Anderson and Todd Solondz, and while it was admittedly derivative of their works to some extent, it had it's own thing going on. Well, I found this exerpt from Amazon's review:
An audience favorite at the Sundance film festival, Napoleon Dynamite may not be entirely lovable, but it's definitely unique.

The bold part is all I need to know. Mr. [Robert] Redford and his Sundance Channel can go to hell for all I care.
