back to the future question...
Okay, I know from previous posts that universal is going to re-issue this set early next year and in the V2.0 format - but in the current issue of Video Business magazine they have a full-page ad saying that on February 1st, universal stops selling the trilogy, which is to be marked down to $27.98 SRP. as of Jan. 25 - will the V2.0 version then go on sale after Feb. 1st? ... this is giving me a headache...

You misread it; they're stopping selling the trilogy on June 10th, 2005. (Or whatever that Monday is.) The ad is for the price-drop, which coincides with them (finally) pushing the v.2.0 on retailers.
FYI, the general rumor is there will be an SE of the first one before year's end.

Ok the trilogy will get re-realeased on January 25, 2005 with the new lower price and the V2 disk in it. On June 6, 2005 the set is going OOP. There is a rumor that an SE version is coming out, but no official anouncement. Read this for a little bit more detail.

So if they re-release a SE for the 20th aniversary does that mean they'll do it for part2 and 3 as well.
I don't have this yet and I've really wanted it for a long time. I've been waiting for a V2, but don't want to double dip in 6 months.
Let's keep this topic updated as news develops.

Great Scott! I got it! If you buy it at Costco you got 6 months to return it.
So get it, don't open it-- yeah, easier said than done I know-- then if something better comes out in the next 6 months you can return it.
I don't see anything wrong with that as long as you don't open it.
I may do that.
