yup. pretty much every title eventually ges discontinued. Some for the simple reason that there is to many at stores and no one is ordering it anymore.

Remember, that list includes all the titles that have been re-issued, so it's not really a good source.

This site uses the database that hometheaterinfo produces. Both sites are very good.

Amazon can help in a way... Dvd's still in print on Amazon have a list price, a buy new price, and a used & new price, while oop dvd's have just the used & new price. Not the most accurate way to tell if a dvd is OOP or not, but it helps.

tsl141: I agree it's not accurate, but I end up using the same indicator sometimes.

You can look up the title at dvdaf.com. It usually tells you which versions are OOP.

"Technically" correct. I maintain the searchable site version. We both contribute to the content of the shared database. While Home Theater Info came first, I have been contributing to the database for over 2 years now. I could now say, "technically", that hometheaterinfo uses the database I produce. But, it's really a shared team effort.

We try to get to most of the latest announced "discontinued" or Out-Of-Print titles added on the weekend (usually on Sunday).

True, we do include titles that are re-issued or taken over by other studios. However, we are usually the "first" indicator one is going to see that a title has been officially discontinued by the studios. Not all titles are re-issued. There are several that I have been hoping would get re-issued now for years, with now hope in site.

Your DVD might just be out-of-print if...

That list is quite accurate - it generally updates when a title gets re-issued. If you want to be more certain, you can check out the "rescheduled" list which shows DVDS which are OOP, back in print, or pending re-release.

Don't forget - sometimes just because a DVD is back in print doesn't mean it's the same version. For instance, the OOP version of Jingle All The Way is widescreen - the re-released version is FS. Or sometimes a studio makes changes in the UPC and packaging, but the DVD is the same (such as The Thin Red Line DTS version, now packaged as a Fox War Classic).
