Star Wars: Clone Wars: Volume One - 3/22/05

Via StarWars.com:

Star Wars: Clone Wars Volume 1 Coming to DVD

The Emmy Award-winning and critically acclaimed Star Wars: Clone Wars micro-series is coming to DVD on March 22, 2005, and here's a first look at the box art of this action-packed release that blends the epic scope of Star Wars with a unique animated style.
Obi-Wan Kenobi fights a messy battle with an alien bounty hunter; Anakin Skywalker engages in an epic lightsaber duel in the decrepit ruins of Yavin 4; Mace Windu single-handedly takes on an entire droid army -- these are some of the unshakable images of micro-series, enjoyed by viewers of the Cartoon Network as well as members of Hyperspace: The Official Star Wars Fan Club.

All 19 three-minute chapters and the five-minute long Chapter 20 of the first round of Star Wars: Clone Wars are gathered together in this release. Directed by Genndy Tartakovsky with Art Direction by Paul Rudish, the Clone Wars series are a fresh, stylized take on Star Wars that remains true to the spirit of the saga. They chronicle some of the epic battles that occur between Episodes II and III as the Clone Wars rage across the galaxy.

Star Wars: Clone Wars Volume 1 debuts on DVD on March 22, 2005. Cartoon Network will host the premiere of the all-new Star Wars: Clone Wars Volume 2 on March 21, one day before the DVD's release. Keep checking starwars.com for the latest developments.

------------------------------------------------------

I'm a little disappointed that they couldn't wait until the new episodes were finished, and put them all on the same DVD, for a late 2005 release alongside Revenge of the Sith, but--hey--that's Lucasfilm.

I've got'em all as Quicktime files that I downloaded from a well known, but temporary site, that had'em up shortly after the original airing, but I'll be glad to get this disc so I can have them for full screen TV viewing.

Also wondering what Volume 2 (Season 3) will be like. Supposedly they'll be about 10-minute shorts or so.

I'm assuming this DVD will include the commentaries that they posted to the Web... or is that just wishful thinking?

For a DVD thats only an hour long, I hope the retail is not over $14.99. Hopefully the same price and the recently release droids/ewok tv shows.

I never really got to see that many of these but from what I saw, it was good enough to warrant a blind buy from me.

I hope they at least give you the option of watching it in 20 parts or one seemless movie.

Looks like this'll be my first Lucasfilm Animated purchase... I'd like to see a play-all feature (seamless without the title cards would be a bonus), commentaries (never got to hear these) and enhanced 16:9.

I agree, lets have a "play all" without the CW title cards. 16X9 enhancement is an absolute MUST.

I still would have rather had all the episodes including those from the third "season" in one set. It would only be a total of a little over two hours of material.

Oh well, I'll buy anyway.

another vote for seamless playback. (is 20 chapter stops too much to ask?) hopefully the commentary tracks will also be in there. it should not be too difficult to cobble together a decent release from what they already have available.

Funny, when they released Droids and Ewoks Animated as one seamless movie without opens and closes, everyone bitched.

That's because everyone needs something to bitch about (especially when it's related to Luca$)

I think the difference is that (a) Droids and Ewoks weren't the complete series (disappointing) and (b) Droids and Ewoks episodes aren't 3 minutes long.

I personally hope they do *both* ways with the Clone Wars DVD. Individually episodes, plus a full 'movie' edition via seamless branching. Doesn't seem like it'd be too hard to do.

The plan right now is to include the commentaries from the web, as well as a brand new making-of featurette. Volume 1 is scheduled to be released the week before Volume 2 premieres on the network.

For those interested, here's how the animated Clone Wars will tie into 'Revenge of the Sith': Volume 1 depicted the 'Clone Wars' and Volume 2 will begin right where Volume 1 left off. 'Revenge of the Sith' will then pick up right where Volume 2 ended. In fact, I've been told that Volume 2 will depict what you will read during the opening scroll of 'RotS'. I thought that was pretty cool.

I downloaded these off the web a while back, but I am going to buy this so that I can enjoy them on my TV with improved sound quality.

I enjoyed these episodes greatly.

wait, so volume 1 includes both Season 1 and 2?

Then they're making Season 3 and 4, which will be volume 2?
