The Warriors, but I think there's a new version coming out, so I might hold off.
Assault on Precinct 13 is pretty good, but I love the Warriors.

Wow. Two GREAT flicks. I'm not sure I could choose which one I like more. However, the films being equal, The PRECINCT 13 DVD includes a solid commentary by Carpenter, whereas WARRIORS is bare-bones.
Keep that in mind as a tie-breaker.

Assault on Precinct 13 is a great movie, but The Warriors is an all-time favorite of mine, so definitely The Warriors.
THERE HE IS! THAT'S HIM! THAT'S...THE WARRIOR! HE SHOT CYRUS! THE WARRIORS DID IT! THE WARRIORS DID IT! THE WARRIORS DID IT!!!

The Warriors, no question BUT at least some of the music has been overdubbed with bad sound alikes.
I'm not sure about the Eagles at the end but Martha & the Vandellas 'Nowhere to Run' has been changed.

Both of them are horribly dated, with terrible acting, cheaper-than-cheap production and silly, unrealistic storytelling.
I love 'em like they're my own children.
Assault has the better (non?-)story, with a template copied zillions of times (itself a copy of Rio Bravo)... The Warriors has TONS of fun lines, however. Both have their strengths and flaws. The pace is Assault can be monotonous, while the different gang getups in Warriors seem like cartoons. I do love David Patrick Kelly in The Warriors... basically playing a younger version of his character from The Crow. Come out to play-ay...
I'd go for Assault On Precinct 13 right now, as the Carpenter commentary is very informative. With the remake of The Warriors on the way, Paramount will probably do a "Special Collector's Edition" to capitalize.
Why the choice anyway? You can get 'em both for cheap.

Nothing beats the vanilla swirl killing of the original Assault. Brutal. And Napolean Wilson rules!
