A little help, with dvd recommendations.

I have about 150$ to spend and i want some new dvds, what dvds would you recommend me. this is my collection that i started from 1 dvd about 7 months ago. http://www.dvdaficionado.com/dvds.ht...1&id=zidane349

The only dvds i can think of getting are Matrix collection, and LOTR ROTK EE. so other than those what are some cool dvds i should get, with 150$ that are already out.

There's so many to choose from. You need to tell us the type of films you are into to recommend you something.

How could someone "seriously hate comedy"?

Here are a few DVD sets that I like, one just for the special features, but most for the film and special features.

Black Hawk Down - 3-Disc Deluxe Edition (This is a must own also. You have two documentaries which are about an hour and a half each, making ofs, commentaries, and on and on. This is one of my top five favorite sets for a single film.)

Fight Club - Special Edition

Panic Room - Special Edition (It's a pretty cool film, so it's worthy of owning just because of that. The real idea here though is the special features. I can't remember the last DVD that went as in depth about the filmmaking process as this one does. Spread over three discs, you'll see/hear/read about the pre-production, production, as well as post-production.)

Pearl Harbor - The Director's Cut - Vista Series (Yes, I know you are thinking I'm insane for listing this one. Yes the movie sucks nuts every which way. Still though, this DVD set is just awesome. If you have any interest in the filmmaking process, this is a nice one to have on your shelf. If the filmmaking process doesn't interest you, then you would enjoy it just for the documentaries included which go over the real event, especially Unsung Heroes of Pearl Harbor.)

Se7en - New Line Platinum Series

Whenever these type of threads pop up I'd recommend one of the movie rating sites. Unless one is buying DVD's based solely on the quality of the DVD in terms of extras and such only you can determine the type of films that might interest you.

I'd spend a half hour and rate some of the movies you enjoyed and that will get you some solid recommendations based on that. Otherwise people are just going to suggest titles that are either ones they love or great DVD's in terms of extras/transfer which will be very hit and miss if you purchase blind on that.

Are the Matrix Collection and ROTK part of the $150 or not? If they are, more than half of your budget is accounted for.

You hate comedy but you have the "Seinfeld" GIFTSET?

More recommendations:

Schindler's List
The Shining
Minority Report
L.A. Confidential

Replace your old True Romance with the newer edition-it's got a better transfer and some nice extras.

He already has Fight Club (non-SE), Seven and Dawn of the Dead (2004), but those are all good movies.

Try browsing the top ten lists at http://dvdmg.com/currenttopten.shtml. You can also look for highest rated by genre at IMDb and/or Amazon.

You seriously hate comedy and your brother bought you the Seinfeld box set as a gift? Does he hate you or something?

Most CG-animated films such as Pixar's have direct-digital transfers so they look very nice, but I don't think they're your cup of tea. The Disney animated films that are Platinum editions (and some recent SE's such as Mulan) are very good too, but again, I don't think you'd be interested in those.

You already have the LOTR and most of the Star Wars discs (although I'd get the widescreen Episode II).

I definately can't help you. I only have nine from your list, and I have more than 300 DVDs, including many comedies.

Some suggestions based on your collection:

Mean Streets (you seem to like mob-related movies, as do I)
Oz (plenty violent)
The Wire (haven't seen it, but it seems to fit from what I've read)
24 (addictive action)
Out of Sight (if you like Jackie Brown)
Brother (and other yakuza films, again I don't know too much about these)

Now that I've given a few recommendations, can you explain why you hate comedy, or even what it means to hate comedy? Do you like laughing in other contexts, or not at all? I'm honestly curious, as I think are many others here.

yes mob movies are my favorite. Reason why i dont like comedy is because it seems all the comdies i have seen are crap, rarly has any movie ever made me laugh out loud. Only time i have ever laughed is in movies where its not even a comedy movie. If that makes any sense.

Save yourself some money, and skip the Matrix Collection, and just buy them separately on DDD. Unless you REALLY REALLY REALLY like bonus features and all that goo.

Definitely get the ROTK EE.

Some of those already mentioned would be a nice addition including:
24 Season 1-3
Se7en - New Line Platinum Series
Band of Brothers
Indiana Jones Trilogy

I also like the Halloween movies so you might want to check out some of them.

i didnt see on your list but try the

Leon the Professional.

Also if you dont like Seinfield you should try trading it away as you could probably get another 100.00 worth the movies. If you feel like trading it drop me a line.
