I'm not usually fussy about DVD packaging, but I'm a little peeved about the Treasures packaging downgrade this time around.

Well, now, here’s where we must start being tough on the new wave of Disney Treasures. It’s understandable that due to Roy Disney’s resignation from the company, the new tins should not feature his signature on any of the packaging, but this has extended to the new titles not having ANY sort of cardboard wraparound at all. This not only gives the feeling of an “incomplete” set, but also looks a little bare design-wise, and means that they sit on a shelf with no indication of their titles on the side, looking out of whack with the previous entries in the series.

Added to this is the fact that the set’s contents, usually printed directly on to the back of the tins, is now represented on cardboard slips, which have been gummed on and come off all too easily. In fact, one of mine slipped off while I was removing the shrink-wrap. I’m in two minds on whether to glue them permanently to the tins, but for now I have tucked it away inside for safekeeping.
Sucks that the back won’t be printed. Though I like tins and have tins for all of them I keep the tins in a box it’s just easier for me (and IMO it looks better).

Though this packaging change is disappointing, I suppose we should be grateful that we’re getting them 100% uncensored.

Next year there might not be treasures at all

Also, I'd say wave 1 is the least "collector" one because 3 of the 4 have censorship in some form.

Very dissapointed that they went the cheap route in regards to the packaging however they left the content intact (I hope).

Anybody have any info on the print runs this time around? I assume it is numbered on the inside with the certificate like Wave 3. It wasn't in the review, and the print runs have varied widely among waves and titles.

Thanks for posting the link... I think I'm going to pass on the Mickey Mouse Club volume and wait on the Pluto one. I'm only interested in the Mickey in B&W set.

I really wish Disney did a 2nd Silly Symphony or Donald Duck set instead of the MMC Week One volume.

From ultimatedisney.com:

"Production numbers are as follows:

175,000 tins of Mickey Mouse in Black & White, Volume 2,
130,000 of Mickey Mouse Club: Week One,
and a surprisingly low 110,000 copies of the most popular preorder The Complete Pluto, Volume 1."

All I need is something that points out any cross over on the Pluto set with the other character sets, and the upcoming Chip and Dale smaller set. Otherwise I totally trust the quality of these sets, top notch.

There are some (mostly from the Frontlines set) but the double dipping does not cross an unacceptable level.

I believe the review said that the tins no longer have the numbers directly printed into the tin (which the first two waves did), but they'll have certificates instead. He also said it won't have the cardboard wraparound, but he explicitly says "the new tins", so I think they're still in tins. It'll just look weird because the tins won't have labels on the spine at all.

I'm definitely picking up the B&W Mickey collection. I've been rather selective about getting these (both because of interest and money), so all I have are the WW2 shorts and the various Mickey shorts. This should be the last one I get... but it's really a shame they didn't remain consistent with their packaging. Did they think everyone was throwing away their cardboard wraparounds, and that they weren't actually functional for shelving?

None of these have very high print runs. I thought they would all be 175,000+. On the Front Lines was 270,000. Pluto is way too low at 110,000. Disney continues to enjoy releasing this product, waiting for the quick sellout, then call it a major success. Get them while you can, because they will disappear fast once again. The Christmas season will sap up available copies far quicker for this Wave 4 than Wave 3 did back in May.

Pity about the wrapper and back. While I never looked much at the back, the spine was indeed damn handy for telling which one was which.

There was nothing in this wave that caught my eye, tho. Mickey Mouse Club MAYBE, but that's about it. The live action stuff was so much cooler than the animated stuff.

I'm guessing you don't have stuff like The Complete Adventures of Cubby Bear (Van Beuren Studios) DVD in your collection...

Well, this is good news and bad for me...

I'm upset that they are no longer including the cardboard wrappers (so you can tell from the spine what set it is).

However, I've lost the cardboard wrapper to MM in Color Vol. 1 (probably the most expensive one to find now) and have been on a casual quest for months to find a reasonable used copy with the cardboard. Now I can just give up on that, since they are going to be inconsistent anyway. Ah, the joys of being an anal-retentive collector.
