Actually, they are. Hollywood is like a different planet. They're morons, and they actually think that people really think they are important. The worst of it is, some other morons actually DO think they are important. I think Jane Fonda is the only one who ever learned anything from her stupidity.

vedderstapp 06-27-05 11:41 AM

Thw Austrailian version is anamorphic. I've got it.

Hey, I know some robots who would take quite a bit of offense at that comment!

I agree with you there. But I think part of the double standard is that the terrorsist in Patriot Games (very underrated film BTW) are all white. whereas the Arab villains in True Lies... Well, you get where I'm going with this. Stupid reasoning? Hell, yes. And, like another poster mentioned, it's not as if the film portraid all Arabs as terrorsits. That's like saying that Black Hawk Down portrays all black people as vicious genocidal maniacs.

Honestly, I wish Cameron and Fox would get the stick out of their asses and just re-release a barebones version of the film with a nice new anamorphic transfer and a DTS track (as was done with some of the early Fox re-releases).

Is this why there are no special editions of The Terminator or Terminator 2: Judgement Day? :(

Oh wait.... ;)

OT I heard that a Carribean people consisting of about 3,000 people are protesting the sequel to Pirates of the Carribean because it portrays their people as cannibals. Which, according to some historians, they are.

I remember back when Assassins was being filmed here in Puerto Rico, many complained that the movie would give people the wrong impression that there are killers and other such criminals in Puerto Rico. Guess what? There are. But not all of them. Anyway, the film never even acknowledged that the finale even took place in Puerto Rico (heck, the celebration toward the end isn't even remotely Puerto Rican.)

Djangoman 06-28-05 05:14 AM

In Indonesia, True lies had made such a controversy, sparked by overzealous fanatic groups who actually (sigh) haven't watched the movie at all. They created fierce protests that somewhat shook every newspaper deadline. The censorship board was very confused because they couldn't find the alleged controversial scenes at all (it was said that there was some kind of massacre scene of people praying - oh my God, where did this b.s come from). This movie only showed maybe one week after that it's banned, to "stop controversy among society" (hahaha). But cinemas made a helluva cash - days before it's banned, because it's been announced True lies was going to be banned within several days, and people were very curious to watch. Full house almost every day before its banishment! Ha, if they want to point a truly Arab-insulting movies, why this movie? Funny, nobody protested Chuck Norris' Delta Force!

But it's quite funny that maybe in 2002 or 2003 the original VCD was released, and nothing happened. The non-anamorphic DVD was imported here too but not available anymore.

Remakes are offensive, therefore it's still an ugly stepchild. :p

Try japan. Barebones, 16x9 and DTS :)

RocShemp 06-29-05 12:40 AM

Thanks for the info, digitalfreaknyc. Will look into it. :)

Snowmaker 11-15-05 07:47 PM

Still no possibility of ever seeing this?

Qui Gon Jim 11-15-05 08:09 PM

This along with the Abyss NEED a re-release.

Skoobooz 11-15-05 09:39 PM

I really don't understand why Fox can't just make a great anamorphic transfer for this and The Abyss (as well as some others...Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire, Strange Days, for example) without having to consult with Cameron. Sure, it would be nice to have a full blown special edition for True Lies (and maybe just a Cameron commentary for The Abyss to add to the current version), but just an anamorphic transfer for these would be greatly appreciated.

Cameron 11-16-05 01:22 AM

i think they are still holding out for a sequal....

Spanky BananaPants 11-16-05 12:10 PM

True Lies is the one SE I'm still eagerly awaiting. Non-anamorphic transfers suck.

DavidH 11-16-05 01:20 PM

Yes, I don't understand Fox's reluctancy to re-release the titles mentioned as anamorphic.

Artman 11-16-05 01:23 PM

My thoughts exactly. My $'s ready and waiting Fox...

Maybe they'll be one of the first waves of Blue-Rays?

this and...

The King and I - anamorphic
Oklahoma! - improved TODD-AO print (the just released SE supposedly sucks and wasn't given a deluxe reconversion from a cleaner print)
Cleopatra - 65mm print

rennervision 11-16-05 02:52 PM

The best part about this is that I was looking for it on Deep Discount DVD last weekend, thinking I could get it for 20% off. When I couldn't find it, I started searching other sites fearing it was going OOP. I was relieved when I found it on Buy.com, and promptly ordered it.

NOW I find this thread and learn it's not even anamorphic.

I'd say there's a good chance of it. Fox did put out a D-Theater edition. It's very strange that they didn't bother to follow up with an anamorphic DVD too.

In other news, Jacob Rubinstein tells us that the True Lies Special Edition is finally moving forward and should be out by early 2006.

Bonus features: Interviews with Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Cameron, Footage from the premiere, Making of-Featurette, deleted scenes, trailers and more!

Release date is rumored to be April 19th! TheArnoldFans will let you know if this street date changes! Stick around!

TomOpus 12-27-05 10:56 AM

Good news... I'm still skeptical, though. Hopefully it'll all come together.

digitalfreaknyc 12-27-05 11:33 AM

Looks like I'll probably be holding on to my Japanese DTS edition.

Skoobooz 12-27-05 11:45 AM

Forgive my ignorance, but who is Jacob Rubinstein?

Why? Has anything said this will or won't have DTS?

paulringodaman 12-27-05 12:10 PM

I'm already marking my calendar!!

PensFan66 12-27-05 12:35 PM

April 19 is a Wednesday.

Don't these rumor-creators know enough to at least pick a credible date?

ReduxGuy 12-27-05 02:15 PM

If it's true, all I need is a 16x9 transfer and a DTS-ES track and I'll be happy.

JACOB 12-27-05 05:44 PM

I read somewhere that it was for a region 2 special edition of True Lies.. I am not really sure.

critterdvd 12-27-05 06:49 PM

Wow... I didn't know that there wasn't an anamophic copy of this available... Intersting of Fox... I think I'll just burn it the next time its on HBO HD.

joliom 12-27-05 07:02 PM

Yeah, and they need to get off their asses with The Abyss, Home Alone, and all of the Planet of the Apes sequels too.

From what I can tell, Jacob Rubinstein is a contributor to the web site from which the information was taken. Sounds like he is a DVD producer, and is also the webmaster of an unofficial site about actress Sarah Douglas (Ursa of the Superman films), who co-starred with Schwarzengger in Conan the Destroyer. He may actually be the one preparing the new release of True Lies.

Bonus features: Interviews with Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Cameron, Footage from the premiere, Making of-Featurette, deleted scenes, trailers and more!

Well, sounds okay. But feels more ho-hum. Nothing particularly outstanding. No Cameron commentary? Looks like an average re-release. Long as it's 16:9, though, it should be fine.

But it won't be in the right aspect ratio.

joliom 12-28-05 02:09 AM

A few other 16x9 re-releases that are long overdue from Fox:

Big
The Towering Inferno
The Poseidon Adventure
Romancing the Stone
Raising Arizona

JACOB 12-28-05 03:17 PM

I wish I was a dvd producer.. I am not. I did help on the region 2 UK edition of Conan The Destroyer. www.angelfire.com/ca4/sarahdouglas. Ms. Douglas did a commentary track for Conan The Destroyer.
