Lucky Buck is Back...
Well the new entire series of Buck Rogers is coming out....anyone buying it?
I guess I am a ham , because I did in the last DEEPDISCOUNTDVD sale. DVD Talk's review is at:
http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=13368
Me personally, I like the series. Wanted to see more of the hawk dude. Wonder what the Spencer for Hire people thought about a "hawk" with feathers?!? However, I liked Spencer's Hawk better. I think they started to get a bit too hammy, but it was saveable.....at the time.... Buck has been restarted many times, maybe we can get a new one......
Oh, and just FYI, here is a photo I got of Buck in DragonCon 2003...
(My spelling is always horrible....sorry about the "d" in there..... )

I loved this show as a kid. I vividy remember the first time I saw the episode where the old guy at the end melted into a stinking pile of goo (now that I have the DVD, I found this is the ep "The Hand of Goral"). That freaked me out so bad (I was 5 at this time) that I had nightmares for a week that I was melting. I have no idea why it scared me so much.

I also loved the show as a kid.
I really think Universal dropped the ball on this title though. Giving us the movie instead of the pilot, no deleted scenes, no documentary. They did better with the Battlestar galactica title.

DVD Talk Gold Edition
finally opened mine last night.
very glad i bought it.
way back when, i knew it was just a cheap cash-in/placeholder to get a quick space opera fix while we waited for the sequel to Star Wars, but watching the pilot again last night, i realized how enjoyable the show could be independant of the tacky costumes and cheap sets and sp fx, because the tone of the writing and the charm of the leads.
it was also kind of startling ot see how slim Gil started off in the show.
my recollections were that he looked like he hadn't missed many meals by the time the show ended.
(boy does he look old in that photo...almost looks like a more idealized, geriatric Willam Shatner).
he was a handsome guy who had a very pleasing presence.
i was always suprised he wasn't a bigger star.
yeah it would have been nice to get a few features thrown in, but i feel satisfied with what i got- 2 whole seasons of a show inside a package that has a smaller footprint than a double VHS tape set and for less than $60 ($56 w/ STL).
i paid $10 once for a VHS copy of the episode Space Vampire so, especially in light of that, i feel like this set was a bargin.
