Seinfeld Boxset opinion???

Hello everyone,

If you were receiving as a gift(s), the Seinfeld boxsets, would you take the season 1&2 + season 3 or take the Giftset?

I would take whatever I could get, but if I had to choose, it would obviously be the giftset (which is what I purchased for myself).

I asked this in another thread without a response yet, so maybe someone here can help me.

I've noticed that the english subtitles do not work for the hour long documentary on the season 1 &2 disc. All the other languages work, just not the english subtitles. (The show itself is fine though) Can anyone else confirm this or is it just my disc?

Sigh... this is really unfortunate if this is the case. Such a perfect set but one glaring error.......subtitles.

And yes...the GIFTSET all the way

same here. In all honesty, if you could get the giftset then that would be better due to all the bonus stuff.

In reality, I'd rather just get the individual sets and have them spend the difference on something else (even if it's only for themselves) cuz I don't really have any use for that extra stuff.

You don't use salt and pepper?

Go with the gift set if there's a choice.

If you will be receiving it as a gift, then I agree with Dabaomb. Get the individual sets. The extras of the giftset aren't worth the additional cost, IMO. Unless of course you are a huge Seinfeld fan and already have a collection of Seinfeld-related items.

I agree, the giftset is no great shakes. The only thing that is really worthwhile in the giftset is the included scriptbook. I do not think it is worth the extra money unless you are a diehard Seinfeld fan, but even then...I don't know.

I saw Seasons 1-2 and Season 3 in Circuit City today for $39.99 each. I got the gift set for $69.99 . . . therefore, in my case, the gift set was actually LESS.

What all exactly is it that you get in the gift set that you don't get otherwise?

Ah, but, with the Hollywood Video price match, the individual sets are only $19.99 each. Thus, the extras in the gift set aren't really worth $30 more, IMO.

However, sans Hollywood Video ad as seems to have been your case, then the gift set was the wise choice...

I don't know how it is around the country, but it was hard to even find a store with the gift set in stock today.

I usually want the best/most, but decided that the deal I was getting didn't make it worth the extra $30 or so.

I'd take the script for a one-time read, but probably wouldn't use the rest.

I'm curious if everyone knows how the 3-season box set is packaged.

I was a little disappointed when I opened mine to discover that it contains Season 1 & 2 and Season 3 in the same exact packages that they are packaged in for individual sale. In other words, they took huge box and placed a shrink-wrapped copy of each set inside, then put the little script book and the salt/pepper set inside.

I guess I was just expecting something more unique, like special packaging for each season -- not just the regular packages shoved into a great big box!

I was just going to get the individual sets but with the $25 coupon from BB.com I decided to get the gift set.

As far as the gift set packaging is concerned, it shouldn't be too surprising. The Lord Of The Rings and Scarface gift sets are two other examples I can think of off the top of my head where the DVD part of the package is identical to the regular "non-gift set" editions and included in with the other extras.

Well obviously the cost would go up if they had to design/produce more packaging. Then people would complain when it's $50 or more extra.

I got the individual sets. The script and the S&P shakers really did'nt appeal to me.

I ended up getting the gift set for the hell of it. I like Seinfeld a bit, but I'm not a die hard, just never had the time to be. As nice as it is as a collectors item, I too was disappointed with the salt/pepper and napkin dispensor. With how small they are it's a tad lame and I dunno, kind of pointless. I did expect the 1+2 and 3 seasons packaged seperately just like they are in stores though for this set, that didn't surprise me at all. But I do like the script, and the deck of cards.

Mine finally came today... 8 days late. Way-to-go Amazon!

Anyways, I think it was well worth it. Even though I'm a hardcore fan, I think it's still cool to own. The box is damn beautiful. I hope future seasons continue something similar, but I doubt they will. The script is really cool to go through, even though I actually already have the book of scripts they put out from the show. The Monk's set isn't anything significant, I doubt I'll use it, but it's pretty cool to have I think. The playing cards are the same, I probably won't use them much. But hell, maybe they'll be worth something someday. If not, I think it's still cool to have for a fan of the show.

As for the discs themselves, I've only gotten through the first season of episodes. The quality seems great to me, and I can see myself getting full re-watchability value out of these.

Speaking of the mini-napkin dispenser, is there any place where you can actually get tiny napkins to put in it?

What I don't understand is why they chose salt and pepper shakers. What's with that? The gift set should OF COURSE had ketchup and mustard containers! You know, one for the red sun of Krypton, and the other for the yellow sun of the Earth...

Got the giftset from walmart. A bit pricey there but it was a Christmas present and I wasnt complaining. Of course, as is traditional with me when I get a collectable item that can break, I always manage to damage it in the first day. Doesnt matter how careful and cautious I am. Ended up chipping a little off the red shaker...eh well, cant tell with how I have it displayed (in shadow box) Overall I like gift set more...even if the extras arent much, they're cute as hell and just nice to play around with. Like the box too
