The opportunities for extras is unlimited - let's hope they put together some goodies for this.

Was thinking they would hold out an extra month or two to see if they could put any Academy Award stickers on the front.

I probably won't get a chance to see it in theatres. Glad it's making a quick DVD debut, so I'll catch it then.

I'm sure the nominations will change this release date.

You can take that one to the bank. Since the advent of DVD this has happened almost every year.

But aren't the nominations announced during the last few days of January? That's always been the case, and Universal already knows they have an award contender on their hands. Why wouldn't they just hold it until March or April?

A little bit more from thedigitalbits... Looks like LE on same day.

Universal has announced the DVD release of Ray for 2/1 (SRP $29.98). Video will be anamorphic with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. No word yet on extras. There will also be a 2-disc Ray: Limited Edition (SRP $44.98) that same day.
And the cover art.

Another stupid Universal LE. I wish they would at lesat give everyone that only wants the movie ALL the extras and not just half of them and then charge an extra $15-$20 for an so-called "Limited Edition" or "Ultimate Edition" that includes stuff most won't want. I don't like all these T-Shirts, Lithographs, 100+ Page Books and what-not. At least WB is doing there LE DVDs right and including all the extras on the stand-alone release

It's sad to see Universal stooping to these stupid "gimmicks" when all they are really doing is punishing the true collector's who helped make DVD what it is.

I like the T-shirts, lithographs, 100+ page books and whatnot.

However, the film itself is the paramount aspect. If there's a good price on the LE that will make me reconsider getting the regular, then there you go.

Otherwise, I'll get the regular version, and netflix the bonus disc...

I agree. While I enjoy getting the extra art, soundtracks, books, admittedly, I wouldn't be getting the LE of Ray if the standalone was the same. I like it when studios go the extra mile to add stuff to movies though.

I'll be getting the LE since I'm a huge Ray fan. Speaking of brother Ray, has anyone purchased three new dvd's that have come out of his past concerts?

There is Ray Charles: Soul of the Holy Land
O-Genio and Live w/ the Edmonton Symphony. Good concerts all around. Any other brother Ray fans out there?
