No Arthur C Clarke commentary on 2001? Shit... that's the one thing I wanted more than anything.

I'd also love to have had a Stephen King commentary on The Shining, but that was always a long shot. A very long shot.

Otherwise, these look to be good sets. (I'm assuming that EWS is the NC-17/unrated version, and not the previously released R cut...)

I cant wait for this. Hopefully sometime down the road we will get special editions of Barry Lyndon and Lolita but this set looks rather good for now.

What's also missing from 2001 is the Arthur C. Clarke's speech on the movie at teh tiem of the release, which does appear on the 1st edition of the DVD by MGM.

As for EWS, we can only assume it is the unrated version screened overseas, but, based on what I read above, it could just be the same R-rated version. It just doesn't clarify that.

Finally, I'm annoyed that Lolita is so barebones, when there was clearly a version released on VHS with extended scenes-- though that may have been an accident on the studio's part as not all VHS versions and no DVDs version had this cut. Still it was clearly remastered and all.

EWS will have both versions on it.

The other big announcement this morning we've already been talking about for a couple of days. Warner has just officially revealed the details on its upcoming Stanley Kubrick special editions, which are due on 10/23. The Warner Home Video Director's Series: Stanley Kubrick box set (SRP $79.92) is a 6-film, 10-disc set that includes new special editions of 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Eyes Wide Shut and The Shining, along with a Full Metal Jacket: Deluxe Edition and the previously released documentary, Stanley Kubrick: A Life in Pictures. All of these films will be available separately on Blu-ray Disc and HD-DVD (save for the documentary) for $28.99 each. DVD versions will also be available for $26.99 each. All of these films have been newly remastered and are approved by the Kubrick estate. In addition, A Clockwork Orange, Eyes Wide Shut, The Shining and Full Metal Jacket are all debuting in anamorphic widescreen format.

The 2-disc 2001: A Space Odyssey - Special Edition will include audio commentary with stars Keir Dullea and Gary Lockwood, an audio-only interview with Kubrick, the Channel 4 documentary 2001: The Making of a Myth, 5 featurettes (Standing on the Shoulders of Kubrick: The Legacy of 2001, Vision of a Future Passed: The Prophecy of 2001, 2001: A Space Odyssey - A Look Behind the Future, 2001: FX and Early Conceptual Artwork and Look: Stanley Kubrick!) and the film's theatrical trailer.

Warner is also re-releasing the previous DVD editions of Lolita and Barry Lyndon, but there's no word yet on high-def versions.

^That part near the end about Full Metal Jacket wasn't entirely correct. While FMJ is available on BD and HD DVD, it's a featureless version with a dated transfer. The new version should be a nice improvement.

No HD box set is a bit of a bummer....

Most of these are up for pre-order on WHV, although I couldn't find the SD version of FMJ yet.

I paid $96.21 for both Kubrick set and Blade Runner 5-disc. I think it's a hell of a deal.

Very good indeed! Even with the curent sale, if you buy three of the individual films from this set, it comes to $44.88. I threw in an extra eight cents and got the whole shebang!

I did the same thing... too good to pass up. I'm a little worried, however, that the Kubrick set won't ship until the Blade Runner set ships two months later. Agck!

I wonder if the bonus content from the 2-disc sets will be present on the HD versions of these new special editions? I would assume so.

Agreed, it would have been nice to get a HD box set. I plan to buy the BD versions separately and keep the current documentary, Stanley Kubrick: A Life in Pictures from the already released box set.

i don't like the idea of not including Lolita and Barry Lyndon in the boxset...iam definitly sure if they will release the same boxset in the UK, they will include them and the boxset will drop in price sooner than the US one....so we will see.

45 is an excellent deal.

I mean, it really isn't 45 (you have to factor in tax), but for something with an 80 dollar price tag, it's really quite a good deal (especially considering you're not getting it right out of the bat).

But the cover-arts do not even get close to what I'd expected. And I am sure they will be released in hinged black keep cases. :( What a shame...

WB could bend me over and charge whatever they wanted for anamorphic widescreen releases of Clockwork, FMJ, The Shining and EWS. So, yeah, worth a double dip to me. Kubrick's films are priceless as far as I'm concerned.

But I'm still pissed about Barry Lyndon and Lolita.

So basically it looks like we're getting new versions of 2001, Clockwork, FMJ, EWS and the Shining. So I should just hold onto the other ones from old set and sell off those films only?

All I really want is a new Barry Lyndon (hopefully HD), the Life in Pictures disc, and the HD 2001. I'll probably keep my current DVDs of the others for the aspect ratio.

Is this right, Amazon lists the HD-DVD box set for only $55.95?!? link. That must be a misprint, correct? Because if thats true, imagine how cheap the DVD set would be.

I don't know if that a hi-def box set. The Warner store has no listing for a hi-def set, only individual titles.

I don't see any mention of hi-def on that page. I'm guessing that it's just the standard def.

It says right underneath where a picture should be "Format: HD DVD"

it now has the dvd logo under where the picture should be and in the descriptions list the format as DVD

i wish they would bundle them in a hd-dvd box set

When are we getting artwork? Lol, I've been asking this forever. It seems to be taking a really really long time.

Amazon has the running time for new release of The Shining as 119 minutes. Is this correct? I figured it would be the same version that is out now that runs at 142 min. If not, I guess I should pick up one of the older copies.

I'm probably just going to remove the individual titles from the outer box and file them alphabetically anyway. I'm not a big fan of boxes with disparate titles anyway.

the real shame comes from viewing the Shining in this boxset - since the word "******" has been banned, the words coming out of Nicholson's mouth when talking to Delbert Grady sounds vaguely like "the higger?"
