AFAIK, they are not allowed to touch one frame of the films, according to the contract with Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli. However, I am not sure if this includes English translation of signs.

Digitally Obsessed has reviews for both Pom Poko and My Neighbors the Yamadas. Thankfully, both got favorable reviews [or should I say are worthy of favorable reviews].

Finally! I just pray that Totoro doesn't suffer any more delays. (Though, they have to have been sitting on this finished for some time now.)

Did anyone else pickup My Neighbors the Yamadas and was surprised to see only one disc? I'm sure someone will find the specs somewhere and post them to make me look dumb, but I thought Disney had a good thing going with the 2 disc SEs of these.

I wasn't trying to make you look bad.
I just assumed also that it was a 2 disc set and was surprised to read your post and need it confirmation.

I'm cool.

Although now I'm starting to get up set that it was the same price as the two discer's.

I suppose it's worth it to see anime released in it's original language, and not have to have exploding robot breast fighters.

I figure this is as good a place to ask as any, but if I'm out of line, bumping up this old topic, I'm sorry.

I'm kind of new to Miyazaki and have loved all the films I've Netflixed thus far. I'm dying to get my hands on the US discs myself, but the prices seem pretty steep. I'm just wondering if my best bet is to wait for the next DDD sale, where they'll be around $17 apiece, or wait and see if Best Buy or CC has some kind of package deal when Totoro and Howl come out.

Or maybe there's a third super-secret Ghibli option that I don't know about? heh, either way, any input is appreciated.

Best Buy has (or has had) a Disney-themed gift card that has a coupon on the back that gives you a discount for buying multiple Disney flicks. I think it was $5 off 2, $10 off 3, and $15 off 4, or something similar.

When these come out, just purchase one of those, and then immediately use that and the coupon and get a nifty discount. I've done this for all the waves of the Miyazakis, as well as a couple waves of the Disney Treasures tins.

Some alternatives:

a.) Wait for Target (or another vendor) to put Spirited Away on sale. Saw it once or twice for around $15, but 99% of the time it's $19.99.

b.) Picked up my Spirited Away during a 3 for $20 sale at Blockbuster.

c.) Both SA and Kiki are offered as enrollment selections at Disney DVD. I'm pretty sure they have other Miyazaki titles as well. Might be a good way to cheaply begin your collection (using codes and such, the disks were insanely cheap). Not sure if these are offered at CH.

I think you are missing the latest wave which are "My Neighbours The Yamadas" and "Pom Poko".

Only Porco Rosso, Nausicaa, and Cat Returns had slipcovers when they were first released . I haven't gotten Totoro or Howl's Moving Castle yet. But I imagine those would. It seems like it'd be for a limited time. You should probably rush out and buy it before it gets all bent up and crushed sitting on the shelf. I hate when that happens.

All 3 new releases have slip covers but at my local BB Totoro and Whisper are sold out. I was able to grab the last copies. I also read from many other people about those 2 are sold out so you better rush out and get em.

My Best Buy had maybe 5 Totoros, and 3 Whispers.. Makes it hard to get that $6 off for buying two if they're sold out of everything except for Howl's. Luckily, I got there shortly after 10 yesterday and grabbed them before they even went on the shelves.

Future Boy Conan was a tv series developed and at least partly directed by Miyazaki in the seventies. It's actually an excellent show in every way. I would pick it up in a second if released! The tone of the world that it is set in is a similar post apocalyptic world as Nausicaa, but being a full series, there is a lot to explore here, including pirates, mad scientists, politicians and more! This would really be great! Hailmyname, am I right in that you've heard that this will be released soon? That's wonderful news if true, I never even thought it a strong possibility!
