I see the Fifth Element and Immortal Beloved in your collection, how about adding the Professional or Romeo is Bleeding to round out your small but important Gary Oldman niche?

I also forgot to mention that I frequently reorganize the numbering to the DVD release date, so no I didnt pick up pork'ys and the crying game at the same time

You guys have some really nice collections. I've been focusing on horror movies lately, any suggestions on movies to add?

my collection

Living Dead 11-09-04 06:05 PM

I'll get in on this action. NickofDoom, it looks like we have very similar tastes as far as sci-fi and animation goes. All the Star Treks, all the Transformers, John Carpenter...nice collection.

As far as horror goes, if you like em cheesy, check out some of the MGM midnite movie titles, they're craptastic!

OldBoy 11-09-04 07:03 PM

so how 'bout some ratings on my collection?...puhlease!!

Nickofdoom 11-09-04 07:14 PM

Thanks Living Dead. Any recommendations on witch ones to check out? Scott, nice collection. You have a few I'd like to get my hands on (Bad Taste LE, Shaun of the Dead, The Killer) I really like the horror and hong kong DVDs. What happened to the rest of the nightmare collection? I notice you have the encyclopedia, but not all the movies.

Yessir! You have a great selection from the past two decades, but are lookin' a little thin prior to that. The ones you do have are obviously the best, but some more classics wouldn't hurt. I love that you have Leone, Cuckoo's Nest, etc. Actually I guess it's more like your classics/foreigns are very well-culled, and your recent stuff has more...schlock [?] in it. I ditched stuff like 8 Mile and American Pie, and wouldn't have picked up somethin like the Scorpion King ;). In any case, you've got some great stuff in there. B+ imho. Also, I'm a total hypocrite as I have garbage like Bedazzled (I can't sell it because Hurley in cop uniform = drool) and Bring It On (same thing but Kirsten Dunst in cheerleading outfit) in my collection. But I digress.

Anyone can feel free to do me.

e: I take that back scott, I'd give ya an A-, after looking at it more closely. I'd still buy some more classic 'n foreign stuff, but that's just me.

Mike Lowrey 11-09-04 08:14 PM

How about mine?

Just a heads up though...it's mostly a mainstream collection, but I like it.

DrGerbil 11-09-04 08:21 PM

drjay, you are far more of a Hitchcock buff than I am. You have more films prior to 1960 than I have period.

I give yours an A.

drjay 11-09-04 08:33 PM

DrGerbil,
You've had a great collection for the past year or so. Given its size, I think it'd be tough to get much better. Every single movie on your list that I've actually seen is on that I liked. Well done, sir!

Finch03 11-09-04 08:39 PM

Very nice collection drjay

Good cross-section, I suggest:

Schwarzenegger-Conan the Barbarian

Classic Monster-Monster Legacy selections

Comic Book/Super Heroes-Superman/Superman II

Helenic Period-Spartacus (Criterion)

thanks nick...as much as i love freddy and have seen all i couldn't bring myself to buy the whole set, just the two i love and was able to get the encyclopedia separate so i jumped because i do love freddy and thought the encyclo was just very well put together.

as for the classics...i only have the ones i love. i've seen the others, but never really got into them, especially enough to own. i usually just stick to the ones i really enjoy or love as ownerships.
thanks for the ratings though...i'll check yours' out later...<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZNxdm835' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_1_1.gif' alt='Smile' border=0></a>

YAKUZA: C+ (in general) and B (in comparison to other people's DVDs in here)

Eventhough you have foreign movies, ya gotta be more selective! Since you also have a multi-region DVD player, Im surprised that it is only used for other region Korean and some Japanese movies. There's tons of other good non-Region 1 foreign flicks!

Bosskmr 11-10-04 08:09 AM

scott1598 nice collection some good horror titles

I think Yakuza collection is great.....what other types of non-Region 1 foreign flicks do you recommend?

I guess you missed these other Oldman Flicks in the collection:
True Romance, Air Force 1, JFK, Dracula and Lost in Space.

I think thats an ample amount for Oldman :)

Nice collection. It's nice every once in a while to see a large collection not dominated by horror and foreign films.

Care to elaborate on any of the grades? Not that I'll lose sleep over some guy on the 'net thinking my collection's average, but I'm curious what sort of criteria you used in grading the collections.
