I don't know why people here are ragging on Part II. That was a strong movie that worked by focusing on Miyagi.

Anyone know if these SEs are only going to be released as a box set (a la Indiana Jones or Back to the Future)? Considering I sold my Karate Kid I on eBay for $50, I shouldn't complain.

so far it looks like you can get the box set, or the first movie as a SE....no singles for 2-4

I like the first 3 movies. The fourth is a travesty.

I already have the Australian Region 4 boxset which has anamorphic transfers on all 3 films, but I'm hoping this boxset will improve on those transfers and give us 5.1 mixes on all the movies.

I've just pre-ordered this and have my fingers crossed. The special features sound pretty cool at least

If the HD transfer they gave SHO and Starz is any indication, don't expect much.

Yes, please provide this link. Because the information I have specifically says no anamorphic for the first film. Take a look...

Must be an error. I can't see disk 1 being full frame only.

It seems as though Deep Discount DVD (I'm assuming this is your "source") has just taken all of the details from the original discs and submitted them as the details for the discs in the set. Im guessing this is just a placeholder until the official details are released. I would think it would be very unlikely that this "new" boxed set is just a repackaging of the original 4 discs with no improvements or alteration.

The first by itself? I haven't seen that mentioned anywhere else. Source?

Anybody find any reviews of this set yet? I'm interested in learning more about the packaging (ie: can I sell the Part III/Next disc)

So no 5.1 according to the Sony site.

Poor show! I'm very tempted to cancel my pre-order now. I already have them all in anamorphic w/s and 2.0 surround! Gggrrrr.

I know its in Anamorphic Widescreen and I THINK its in 5.1 sourround sound as well. I'm sure it will have it included.

To the person who said you can buy the 1st film as a standalone, FORGET IT!!! The reason they are doing this is because they want to sell the inferior films(well III and "Next" were at least)

I don't think it's a mistake. I think one of the disc is dual-sided.

I just read this entire thread for the 1st time and found it very entertaining. Good going guys.

Hopefully the set will have the 5.1 audio since they did it for the HD transfer. I'd buy the set (for $25 at amazon) anyway if it in fact will be anamorphic since the old version was just in full screen. It's amazing there are so many mis-prints of what the film will be in at all the dvd sites. I'm really hoping it'll be in 5.1 and anamorphic, this movie deserves the very best.

There's a review here:

http://www.classicsondvd.com/karatekid.htm

Not the most detailed review but it does list the specs at the top as being 2.0 goddamnit
