I think it's cause the Theatrical version was just as the director intended the movie to be. To add more to it would make it something Cameron doesn't feel comfortable with. I'm sure they were deleted for a very good reason, and I suppose I'm thankful that they will at least be available to see in a branched form, which is much better than just having them in the extras menu like most other movies do.

I'd say that the fact Cameron is happy with the film the way it is even after so long is quite a great thing, cause if he was any less of a film maker he would have modified scenes like George Lucas.

I have the bad feeling that this isn't going to happen since it might be a DVD space issue, even though Dreamworks some how managed to fit a DTS-ES mix on the Gladiator disc.

So do I, but there's always hope. Might have a good chance in other regions.

Eh . . . considering how long the movie was, it could have simply been an issue of runtime (not a good reason in my personal opinion, but it's obviously not my call ).

I still think a branching feature similarly used in The Abyss would be a much better way of presenting the film, IMHO.

yeah given the fact that there were four commentary tracks + a Dolby Digital EX track... (my fingers are crossed).

I'm looking forward to getting this disc (definitely the four disc), but why are they announcing it so soon? When I heard the announcement I figured it would be for a summer release, not an October release.

I do not think it has been officially announced, but even if it was, it isn't odd. They announce big titles early.

I think Disney has already announced Cinderella for Oct 2005.

Yes it has been officially announced. And you are right it is not odd to have something so far out.

I was wondering if Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On music video will be part of the dvd? I know I will be bashed and made fun of but I really hope this video will be on the dvd. This song was part of the Titanic experience and it made the movie become what it is today. Plus, they better have the movie trailer on the dvd.

The info on the disk is exactly the same, it's just a question of how you program the disk. One click vs twenty, or whatever.

If it's just a matter of which version he prefers and making that clear to everyone, all they need to do is label the two versions "Director's Cut" and "Unauthorised Extended version" or something similar.

I wanted a bit more, but it is still a lot more than the disc I currently have. That 4 disc set should be enough to keep me busy for awhile, so I am pretty excited.

I hear you. Been hoping for the same thing. Music videos for "My Heart Will Go On" and also for "Southampton." In the days when Titanic was all the rage, videos for both were all over VH1. Celine's more so; "Southampton" wasn't played as much, but it's still part of the Titanic mystique. Both were great. Both richly deserve places on at least one of the DVD editions.

I absolutely loved the movie, and will definitely be getting the 4-disc set. No question. Was also going to get the 2-disc set, but more than one source has indicated that that edition is nothing more than the first two discs of the 4-disc set. No additional features. I won't make my final determination until I'm holding both editions in my hands, and can see for myself. But I know that if the 2-disc actually contained the music videos and the 4-disc did not, I would probably buy both. JUST for those. I'm not crazy. Really--I'm not.

Forget Celine . . . put a Gaelic Storm video on there (the band at the "Below Decks" party).

Well, you're talking about the same group that thought How Green Was My Valley was superior to Citizen Kane - need I say more?

from the bits rumor mill

We've been told to look for the new 2-disc and 4-disc versions of the Titanic: Special Collector's Edition on 10/18 as well (you can read more about these DVDs here, from our coverage of the announcement event with director James Cameron back in early March).

I really liked How Green Was My Valley. Citizen Kane was a technical and artistic achievement, no doubt, but I didn't find it to be very entertaining. I could watch Casablanca any day of the week. Citizen Kane, I have to prepare myself for.
