Not that it'll really matter now but write/e-mail Paramount and TELL them why you're not a) buying this release or b) choosing to purchase the R2+4 instead. If they don't know, they'll never learn (not that they'll ever learn in the first place!).
At any rate, let them know why they're not getting your money (I believe 20th Century Fox gets most of it outside of the US).

Strange thing is, at least two of the extras reportedly on the fourth disc of the non-R1 release are the same as those noted as being on the 3-disc R1: HBO First Look: The Heart of the Ocean and Titanic in 30 Seconds with Bunnies. Are the specs for the R1 3-disc changing?
My new rant: What genius thought he or she was coming up with a release plan that would actually appeal to R1 fans? Titanic gets the "deluxe" treatment abroad, and R1 is given something watered down? What the hell? Who's behind this? Who gave their okay? THIS IS JAMES CAMERON'S TITANIC, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!! This is the biggest grossing film OF ALL TIME!! What are you THINKING??

Really, it's not like Titanic did any better grosses abroad than it did in the U.S., so I don't even get the reasoning behind the differences in the release -- it should be the SAME release worldwide, except for the differences in NTSC, PAL and SECAM. I'm going to remain calm until the actual final specs are released.
There were NO e-mail addresses for Paramount; just the following:
Paramount Studios

Hollywood, CA 90038

Isn't Paramount one of the companies who always gives customers pretty crappy releases?

I think Paramount is pretty consistent. Universal is the one, to me anyways, that seems to be slacking when it comes to dvds.
I'll be getting the Region 1 release. It's still anamorphic widescreen and the 5.1 Dolby track still sounds good. Just like with every other dvd, I'll watch the movie more than I would the extras.

You know, I avoided this movie like the plague for years, but when a super deluxe, 4-discer with DTS was announced, I thought to myself "that just might make it worth putting on my shelf."
Paramount, you have simultaneously jumped the shark while screwing the pooch. There are but three words to describe you: stink, stank, stunk.

The way this is shown in the press release, it seems to apply to all versions. Can't imagine they would deny R1 the best sound format. Unless, of course, only "ultimate cinema fans" care about that. And we in R1 are not, according to the press release. Surprised we even care about 16:9 transfers, oh such non-fans of ultimate cinema we are.

So, we're not even getting the trailers that other regions get?!
And guess what, the studios keep getting away with it because this shit still sells to the majority. We are only a handful of people who are bitching.
