With (so far) nothing about the score except that damn music video (even though I am one of Horner's biggest fans, even I can't stand it because of Celine Dion), I am one sad banana.

I'm certainly looking forward to this, but the anticipation now feels more bittersweet than anything else. I was at Best Buy on Tuesday (contemplating the new Ghostbusters release), and found another movie that had been given the 4-disc treatment. Dawn of the Dead--George Romero's original.
For a movie with the stature of Titanic, 4-disc sets seem to be the way to go. The Lord of the Rings, Pearl Harbor, Ben-Hur. They're grand. Epic. Three-disc is essentially no different from a 2-disc set for any other film. The movie is spread out over two discs, and we get one extra disc of supplemental material (not including the branched content). Most of those supplements are apparently going to be EPK. Since when are those any good? Not that any of this changes What Is. But I need to vent. I'm still upset with whoever made this call. When it comes to this film, three discs are not "good enough." Not to me. Titanic DESERVES the deluxe 4-disc treatment that other epic films have received. It's the only thing that makes sense. End of rant. For now. --THX |

I would take DTS ES as an audio option with a serious grain of salt. With so much crammed onto the first two discs, I don't know if they'll be able to fit the track onto there and keep the film's compression level up.
The reason I listed it is because a number of foreign retailers keep mentioning it (wouldn't it suck if that became a non-Region 1 exclusive??) Once again, I'd like to stress that the news post was everything that I have been able to gather about TITANIC from bits of info here, there and everywhere. Until a final press release is issued, nothing is official. |
Sounds great, but I was hoping for a making of documentary, and a documentary talking about the hype and popularity of the movie, at the time. I hope some of the commentaries at least go over that.

I get it too...and didn't even watch that show, except for that episode because I knew Jim Cameron was going to appear.
Funny how Paul Reiser still has the same basic haircut he had back in the days of ALIENS...which as I've heard numerous times, 'dated' that great film. |
I was hoping the disc would have the "Titanic: Breaking New Ground"documentary that aired on Fox back in '98.
|
Well at least it's only $30, which should give us sale prices of $15 or so. I'd say chances are good for exclusives at diff retailers...so maybe we'll get a 4th disc after all...or at least a 1/2 disc's worth.

Didn't they say at the press confress that the same person who did the excellent Under Pressure documentry for The Abyss will be doing a documentry for Titanic? Under Pressure is one of the best making-of documentries that I've seen and they were very brutally honest.

Does anyone know the difference between the 2 listings?

DVD Answers has some revised artwork:
http://www.dvdanswers.com/index.php?...6155&n=1&burl= Sigh...do we really need a picture of James Cameron on the cover? The original design was classier. This release just keeps getting less and less special. Plus, with the release date only about two and a half months away now, shouldn't we be getting an official announcement with specs? It's already available for pre-order. I've said it before and I'll say it again: this has been one of the most poorly handled big-ticket releases in a long time. |
He does look out of place on the cover.
|
Ugh. That revised cover sucks. Has there ever been a dvd that has featured a picture of the director on the cover? :hscratch:

A "behind the scenes" image belongs on the back cover, not the front. Aside from that, this is actually the first time I've been really excited about this new release since the whole 3-disc/4-disc mess began. They finally changed it from Special Edition to Special Collector's Edition (more appropriate for the be-all, end-all release of Titanic on DVD), and James Cameron's signature is back.
I maintain that this film deserves a 4-disc set--I won't back down from that--but at least the box design is looking better. --THX |
