walmart shrek 2 warning!

Just got back from walmart, long story made short: they are not price matching comps ads!(cvs, bb, etc). If you try to get the walmart exclusive 2 pack with free shrek 2 cd they will not honor the price match!! I finally had to get the 1 disk dvd, drive to another waly world, loose the recept and exchange for the 2 pack. Walmart are real JERKS!!!!

Gizmo 11-05-04 12:54 AM

Wow

FinkPish 11-05-04 02:05 AM

Question: why are you going to Walmart?

DrGerbil 11-05-04 02:11 AM

crash&burn, you really ought to see the new South Park episode. :)

CarlitoBrown 11-05-04 02:32 AM

Yeah, buy it at Jeff's Drugs.

Wannabe 11-05-04 02:38 AM

The average price of gas here in LA is close to $2.50. Driving back and forth effectively kills any savings.

TheKing 11-05-04 02:41 AM

Why should they honor the price match? You weren't trying to buy Shrek 2, you were trying to by a 2-pack with Shrek 2 and a bonus CD.

Wal-Mart.com has Shrek 2, like everyone else has in their ads, for $15.87. The version with the CD is $19.96. They are different items, so why would you think you could use an ad for item A to use for item B?

Answer: Because people aren't just happy getting a great deal. They want something for nothing.

damn right

I think the real jerk is clear here. You aren't trying to price match the same item, you are trying to rip them off since it's a differnet product.

Cry yourself a river all you want or complain about it all you want. I hate Wal mart and I'm siding with them on this one.

Just to underscore what Jack wrote, if Wal-Mart is selling a Wal-Mart exclusive, how could they price-match with a competitor that is not and cannot sell the same item? That's kind of what the word "exclusive" means.

Go to your room and don't come out until you have thought long and hard about what you have done. In the meantime, don't expect any of us to feel sorry for you.

Nah; True Value is better.

It's one thing if it's like the Star Trek bonus disc at Best Buy. In that instance, Best Buy only has copies of Season Two with the bonus disc inside. Sure, they could turn down a price match from somewhere else because of the disc, but they don't offer an alternate without the disc until they run out of the bonus version. So they're usually going to honor the price match.

In this case, Wal-Mart is offering Shrek 2 by itself, or Shrek 2 with this bonus CD at a different price. If they weren't selling it by itself, then I could understand being upset.

speedyray 11-05-04 06:51 AM

Yeah, as much as I hate WalMart, I think they are right here and you my friend are wrong

steebo777 11-05-04 07:26 AM

crash&burn, it seems your post has crashed and burned.

I believe this was also the argument Best Buy uses for price matching when they have an extra disk included (e.g. South Park S2 DVDs).

Besides that point, I have to iterate FinkPish's question: Why are you shopping at Wal-Mart? -rolleyes-

PixyJunket 11-05-04 08:11 AM

TomOpus 11-05-04 08:27 AM

Why shop at Wal*Mart?

Because they consistently have the high-profile releases cheaper than anyone on release day. This is true at the WM near me (YMMV). Plus, I usually go after work around 4ish... and it's less of a hassle than Best Buy.

That said, I use WM for a small percentage of my purchases but they're an option that I'll continue to use. I don't understand why saving money is such a bad thing.

ps, I'm not condoning what c&b did... that was just wrong :)

Big Worms 11-05-04 08:29 AM

Is the cd that comes with it worth the extra $4?

IMO, no. I picked up Shrek 2 w/ bonus disc this morning at Best Buy; they were open at 9:00 which, judging by the level of traffic, no one else knew (besides me :) )

crash&burn 11-05-04 10:15 AM

Walmart did NOT HAVE THE SINGLE DISK FOR $15.97! it was $19.99 also!! That was my argument with the walmart manger!!! I said if your going to price match only the single disk, why not the disk with the free cd!! The display had both single & 2 packs at the same price! I think $19.99 for either one was stupid, many people in line thought they would at least have the single disk for $15.00 or less....

bmello 11-05-04 10:23 AM

Pricematching is always YMMV. A different Walmart might have given it too you.

Big Worms 11-05-04 10:36 AM

Well this is going to vary by market, but the Wal-Mart in Westminster, CO is selling both versions for $15.87.

crash&burn 11-05-04 10:40 AM

Is what i did wrong? If other walmart market's had both for $15.97? I just thought it was wrong to pm the single dvd that was $19.99 also! Funny thing the manager wanted to pm the vhs price of $9.99 beacuse she thought it was vhs, i said no that's the dvd in your hand. Maybe this is why the workers there have no clue & some get ripped off......

Mok 11-05-04 10:45 AM

You know it's funny the Walmart around me does not display the sale price. They put the dvd out marking it $19.99 and when you get to the register they discount it. Sometimes you don't even know something is on sale.

darmok 11-05-04 12:08 PM

no walmart by me, so i ordered a set online. thanks for the reminder.

btw, that new South Park Wall-mart episode hit the nail on the head. funny stuff!!

Spiky 11-05-04 01:13 PM

Geez, if the $4 is that much of a strain, why not just run out the front door with it, bypassing that whole "paying" deal?

Sounds like you spent an hour or two getting $4 off an item. Personally, I make a little more than $4/hour and find my time a bit more valuable than that. YMMV

Not accurate.

I bought Star Trek Season 2 at Best Buy on Wednesday and there were at least two sets WITHOUT the bonus disk on the shelf.

It would seem to me if WalMart is trying to sell you Shrek 2 with a FREE bonus CD, then it should be the same price as Shrek 2 WITHOUT the bonus CD. That is, if it really is free.

hugo1000faces 11-05-04 01:47 PM

Funny that in all my days as a message board reader, I've never seen the term YMMV (which I now know means "your milage may vary") And suddenly it appears three times in this thread. :)

bigjim25 11-05-04 02:31 PM

What songs are on bonus WALMART CD?

DrMcKittrick 11-05-04 03:27 PM

Went to WalMart today to get a copy of the regular disk this morning and there were no WS copies but for the ones that came with the CD.

AOD 11-05-04 05:00 PM

Uh huh. Well, just go straight to BB or CC and just pay the 15.99 period. You save time and gas money plus the aggravation. Four bucks is not worth all the hassle when you could have already watched the movie if you would have bought if for 15.99! It's great to get a good deal, but come on. If the cd is an exclusive then you have no ground to stand on. Go get the disc at BB, they have the exclusive Green Room disc. hmmmmm

Is $4 really worth arguing with a manager over and making a fool out of yourself?

Each location is obviously different - I've never found any major new releases cheaper at Wal-Mart...

Wal-Mart prices things according to how close the competition is. If there's a Best Buy across the street, they'll have good deals. If there isn't a major DVD retailer nearby, they won't mark it down as much. Or so I've heard.

I wanted to comment on the original poster and what they did when I first saw this thread today but I was in too big of a hurry.
Now I have some time.

It is people like this who ruin deal for everyone else. If you wanted the DVD cheap you should of bought JUST the DVD. If you had to have the CD then you should of paid extra for it and been happy to have the CD. It's crazy that you scammed the second Wal-Mart and also amazing that you can in here and thought people would be outraged that Wal-Mart treated you like this. I'm not saying Wal-Mart is perfect but I think cheating like this is just being cheap and greedy.

The Valeyard 11-06-04 02:36 AM

The Wal-Mart in West Covina, CA had Shrek 2 with the Bonus CD for $15.99 and the single Shrek 2 for $14.99.

Very few Widescreens left when I picked mine up.
