Oh Snap! Another Snapper
For those who don't know, a snapper case is the cardboard case with a plastic strip that "snaps" shut, as seen on many Warner Bros releases, as well as some New Line and other studios.
Has anyone stopped buying snappers completely? Would you pass on a favorite film just because it was in a snapper? I won't buy any new snappers, as there are many other movies I want to get, although if I find a rare OOP title in a snapper, I will get it.
Do you mind them if they are in a box set (Superman, Charlie Chaplin Box set from Image, etc.?) I really don't mind them that way myself, as they only affect each other, instead of being jumbled in with all of my other discs.
Are you trying to weed out existing snappers from your collection? I just took a huge stack of DVDs to Blockbuster for their $8 trade-in, and I had quite a few snappers that I know are out in keep cases, often in better editions:

- Animatrix, Matrix, Matrix Revisited - I'm getting the box set
- Austin Powers 1 and 2 - I want the colored keep cases
- The Avengers Movie - meh...
- Dracula 1979 - I'll get the new release
- Halloween II (Goodtimes) - I want the Universal version
- First Strike, Mr. Nice Guy, Rumble in the Bronx - I want the uncut subtitled versions from other regions
- The Meaning of Life - I want other versions
- Mr. Baseball (Goodtimes) - I want the Universal version
- My Fair Lady - I want the 2-disc version
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - I want the white keep case
- Weird Science - I want the new version

I don't like snappers, but I'm not going to pass up on a lot of films that I love just because they were released in snappers only. That would exclude me from most of the classic WB films from earlier than this past 6 months or so, and that wouldn't be acceptable at all. Noir collections would be a lot worse off without the Maltese Falcon, the Big Sleep, Mildred Pierce, the Postman Always Rings Twice and the Humphrey Bogart noirs from last year. And that's not to mention some of my other favorites that are in snappers:
The Wizard of Oz
All the Kubrick Collection films
American History X
Before Sunrise
Pee Wee's Big Adventure
A Mighty Wind

Why does WB keep releasing its Family titles in cardboard cases??? Dumb thing. I just picked up Frosty's Winter Wonderland and Rudolph & Frosty: Christmas in July, which were in snappers. The same deal with the Looney Tunes titles. Children probably handle DVDs the roughest, so those poor cases are just asking for destruction.

Passing on a movie you love because of its case is very stupid to me. I can't believe people would be worried about how a case looks/fits on their shelf with the rest of their collection, so much so that it would prohibit them from being able to enjoy the film.
Trading in snapper cases in order to grab keepcases? No biggie. I'd do the same for a few movies. Not going to make a big deal out of it though.

If the snapper has been (un)officially discontinued, I'm wondering what the deal is with releases like Justice League and X-Men Evolution. I'd like to buy these, but if they end up finishing off the series with keepcases or box sets, I don't want to end up with a bunch of snappers.

I was thrilled to be rid of 4 of them to Blockbuster this month.I will sometimes allow a Digipack (or its equivalent) but my preference is clearly plastic.

I do miss some Warner Bros titles, but with their move to keep cases, there are plenty of Warner Bros films coming out that I will be able to get, and I'll keep hoping they will re-release others, especially if they go with some nice 2-disc editions.
For some reason, I don't mind the Digi-packs, I think they actually look nicer on the shelf than keep cases, and there isn't a problem with them catching on each other (like snappers.)
If I went in the store with 15-20 bucks to spend, I wouldn't walk out empty handed if a WB title I wanted was in a snapper, I would get another movie that I wanted in a keep case. It's just that the case is one factor to help me narrow down the vast selection of titles that I want. Another factor is P&S only, I refuse to buy any P&S titles now. I don't have a WS tv yet, but anamorphic is yet another factor, although not necessarily a deal-breaker.

They're not that big of a deal. I recenty watched The Philadelphia Story, I had passed it up because it was in a snapper but now that I've seen it I can't wait to get it.

There's only 2 films I've held out buying:
-The Green Mile
-The Majestic
I was hoping since Shawshank just got an SE, those would as well. and with Warner's new plan of releasing DVDs in keep cases I can wait.

As for anamorphic? Even though I don't have a WS TV, I don't buy non-anamorphic titles for two reasons. 1) Pre-prepare for the day I do have a WS TV, and 2) Because I have 16:9 enhanced mode on my 4:3 TV, so therefore I do get the advantage of the full resolution.

I'm not a big fan of snapper cases, but I think some people have gone completely insane over their hatred over the cases. There is no way I would ever turn down a favorite movie because it was in a snapper case.
I like to watch the movie on the DVD inside the case, not the case itself. As long as it houses the disc and keeps it safe, I'll be happy. Just make sure the disc itself is of solid quality, and WB has always been one of the studios that has done a good job with their discs.

I could care less either way. Just as long as there is a DVD in the fricken thing. One thing snappers have going for them: easy hubs!! You can't say that about some keepcases.

C'mon.....you can't be serious.
I don't mind snappers but I definitely don't have the certain......umm....criterium list that alot of DVD elitists have. Actually I picked up The Long Kiss Goodnight today at a pawn shop and it's in a snapper case. I like the movie, so what am I going to do, be a snob and thumb my nose at it?? I can understand no P&S and only OAR, and can even understand some wanting only anamorphic, but this is just a case to put your disc in....and thats all it is. Sure I like the keep cases better but I'm not gonna pass up a great movie because its in cardboard instead of plastic, they sell plastic cases everywhere anymore. By the non-snapper way of thinking, people would have to start thinking about passing up all these 2 and more disc sets that are now coming out in fold out cardboard with protective sleeves, some of them cardboard as well. Actually I prefer snappers to those but in any case I'll settle for whatever the title I want is packaged in; if I hate it TOO badly then I can always stick em in plastic and print up covers.
Also, I've ran across some plastic keepcases with hubs that were an absolute nightmare, so no sheathing is perfect.
