Also isn't the making of part of the dvd they show scenes without the blue tint and it looks like a normal looking movie.

I will have to go through my old tapes but I used to have rough cuts of:

Payback - Not as good as the theatrical version
My Best Friend's Wedding - Had quite a few scenes changed that I preferred in the original cut
Studio 54 - Worse than theatrical version. It made me laugh when this was release and how many people were angry and demanded the director's cut. It was such a bad film that was made somewhat respectable.

And a Black & Blue tint is very appropriate for Payback, given what happens to the main character in the film. :)

Hey, all! I was amused when I opened this thread, and found that I was the original post writer, LOL! I had forgotten about this... but thanks to all for the info, this is an excellent flick, and it's good to know the origins of the tint issue.

Hey, there really oughtta be a SE of this movie, IMHO.

When I saw this in the movie theater, it looked splendid, and I own the dvd and I like the intended color palette used by the filmakers. Great flick by Mel!

I remember in the trailer there was to be a shoot out at a train station ( its the bit where Mel is on his back shooting a gun) but was obviously lost in the changes.
It was a good film, not one of Mels-overacting-in-the-face-dept movies thank god!
