I agree. This movie is classic Aykroyd and Chase. I used to have the crappy fullscreen dvd but sold it because it looks like crap on my widescreen tv. There are so many crappy movies they release with proper aspect ratios. Spies Like Us is one of the worst produced dvds. If I remember correctly the movie starts without going to a main menu.

I saw that many of the first Warner DVDs were actually released in widescreen in Europe. Case in point: "Frantic". But unfortunately, it seems that "Spies Like Us' is OOP in Europe, so maybe people in the International Forum can help here...

I'm a buyer of a good version if it happens. I want this dvd, but not the crappy version out now.

My all time favorite comedy.
"this is my sister, you can all have her."
The dvd out is crap. I own it anyway, but would gladly double dip for some 16:9 goodness.

My family still uses the whole "Doctor...Doctor...Doctor...Doctor" joke. Even in public...and they get some strange looks when they do.
You'd be amazed at how many people don't get that joke. It was used again in a Stargate SG-1 episode called "Frozen" from Season 6.

^ but it can be had for around $5. Definitly worth a few views at that price.

I'm hoping for a new release. I just traded in my current disc to Blockbuster. For now, I'll let Warner Bros. hold my wallet because there's a thousand dollars in there or maybe there isn't.

Now that it's 2005, it is the 20th Anniversary of Spies Like Us. If the studio needed an excuse to re-release this great movie, then they got one now. I really hope that they do release a 20th Anniversary dvd with all the goods (Anamorphic Widescreen, some extras). This is one of my favorite 80s comedies and I am sure I am not alone.

Good idea. Then they can kill all the ones that need WS and anamorphic upgrades all at once: Spies Like Us, Funny Farm, Nothing But Trouble, and Caddyshack II. Heck maybe they could even throw Follow That Bird in there too. And what about Three Amigos? Does Warner have the rights to that? It was an HBO production right?
