I agree that my mind was blown when I saw the price. I expected it would be between $100-150 which I would have payed.
I really hope people buy this and there is plenty of press so he's more well known. Maybe all of my Harold Lloyd collectibles will go up in value too. :p |
With the Art of Buster Keaton Set, the recent Fatty Arbuckle set, the Chaplin Collections, and now this...I'll finally have nealry all of my favorite silent films available in quality DVD sets. I can't wait for this.

$89.95 seems very reasonable. This is a must buy.
Disc 2: • The Milky Way (1936) With a career that spanned more than 34 years, Harold Lloyd essentially created the feature-length film. |
sold...great price
|
This looks amazing! My wife already knows this is what she'll be getting me for Christmas. It's just going to be torture waiting to open it.
|
I kind of surprised that "Welcome Danger" isn't on this box set since it got a very-limited rerelease in the theatres earlier this year.
|
This is excellent news. I hope there's enough support for this set to get the remaining features released at some point. I'd like to echo the thoughts that the price is exceptionally reasonable for such a meaty release. Much more goes into restoring these silent films than the average DVD. I'd fully expected a price range in the neighborhood of the Keaton set. Which I still have yet to pick up because of the price tag.

It's great that they the set goes beyond the silent era. The Milky Way is a hoot. Now if someone [Paramount?] would release The Sin of Harold Diddlebock. An odd statement... to say the least. Harold Diddlebock is out. Welcome Danger is not owned by the Lloyd Trust. |
Wonderful news. A decent price for what seems to be an excellent box set. A definite purchase for me.

True, but in Harold Lloyd's case anything is better than nothing!

Since they've been showing the HL Trust version of the movie on TCM and as part of the touring HL fest (which is currently running in San Francisco BTW). I'm going to assume there's been some unexpected delay (perhaps the lack of a music score for the silent version?). |
Professor Beware was a Paramount Pictures production which is now owned by Universal.
We're not getting: The silent or sound version of Welcome Danger Harold Lloyd's Funny Side of Life Harold Lloyd's World of Comedy |
The gift set is currently up for preorder at DVD Planet for $62.97, with the three individual volumes priced at $20.97 each (30% off MSRP.)
Unfortunately, DDD is asking $67.46 for the box set ($22.49 for the separate releases), but those willing to wait for a possible coupon around the release date (or six months later) might save another $13. |

This has become my most anticipated title of the season. The only question is whether to pre-order for $62.99 or get the individual volumes (minus bonus disc) for an effective total of about $18 at CH.
|
Most anticipated and the bonus disc isn't worth $11 to you? :hscratch:
|
Not sure about your math there, but assuming the three volumes listed at CH are two-disc sets, they can be had for an effective cost of $18 total (not each). That's based on an effective cost of $6 per volume. I'd like the bonus disc, but it's not worth $45.
|
I thought you meant $18 for each of the three sets for a total of $54.
Will CH get the discs? Bonus Disc ========= Rare, vintage interviews and home movies Tributes and interviews with family, friends and legendary celebrities including Debbie Reynolds, Robert Wagner, Tab Hunter and director John Landis Narrative chronology detailing the life and times of Harold Lloyd, hosted by Leonard Maltin Video bios of many of Harold Lloyd's collaborators and stars of the golden age of cinema Harold Lloyd Academy Award speech USC's Delta Kappa Alpha tribute to Harold Lloyd hosted by Jack Lemmon and Steve Allen 3-D photos shot by Harold Lloyd himself (3-D glasses included) Photo and publicity galleries Radio shows And more! |

And Cameron: you're not alone, as your WB box set thread attests. |

Hmmm. How much is the box at Columbia House? Is that where the $62.99 figure was quoted from? Would it be to my advantage to rejoin the club?

Will CH get the discs? [/i] The $63 figure I quoted is the pre-order price at Amazon. The pre-order price at CH is $67.46 (plus shipping I assume). I'm out of the CH loop these days, and I've never really ordered box sets there, so I'm not sure how to optimize this price. I'm sure someone else here will know. My plan is just to order the three 2-disc volumes and then later on buy or trade for the bonus disc. |
