2 things on Donnie Darko DC
 

First, has there been any talk of a R1 release? Is there a date? Second, does anyone know if the R2 release is in anamorphic video? My player cannot play anamorphic PAL DVD's, and this will determine if I import. Thanks.

The new R2 release is anamorphic, I thought I remember reading somewhere that it's coming in December in R1.

So, it looks like we need to pickup the current disc to be complete?

Is this running time for the movie, or for the movie plus all the special features? Either way it seems wrong.

253 Minutes would be 4 hours, 13 minutes and about twice as long the original cut.

Can anyone who has seen the DC (theatrically) confirm a running time?

It's probably the combined running time for Disc 1 and Disc 2... not the run time for just the movie.

Guess I'll need to pick up the current disc as well . . . again! This will be the third time I have bought it. Wild Things still has the lead with four purchases though.

I love this movie!

I saw the DC theatrically, and it wasn't too much longer than the original. I don't think it broke two hours, much less 250 minutes.

why is there a commentary with kevin smith? is it "from mallrats fame" kevin smith? i'm all for it if it is him, i just didn't know he was involved with the pic.

He wasn't involved with the pic, but he was a fan of the movie, and is apparently now friends with the director. He serves as sort of a moderator, but anyone knowing Smith should expect his eccentric attitude and humor to show through. I have the UK set, and I found the commentary rather enjoyable. They hit on some of the symbolism and foreshadowing. Smith adds the right amount of entertainment and never steps on any toes.

Is that all the features there will be? The R2 seems to have more stuff, like

I just watched it yesterday (perfect Holloween movie) and it's only about 2 hr. 2 min. before the credits roll.

The commentary with Kelly and Kevin Smith (Clerks) is pretty good and recorded quite recently - but they mention something offhand about region 2, which leads me to think that this was an R2 exclusive, but I guess not, since the Fox announcement.

It will be mine. Oh yes. It will... be mine.

Although, it would suck to have some of the features from the Region 2 release left off. What's up with that?

Aren't some of those R2 feature already on the currect R1 edition of Donnie Darko?

The R2 cover is lenticular and holograms between Jake and Frank. It's a slipcase with a regular R2 Amaray style case inside.

I have the R2 edition and I see no need to get the R1 when it comes out, this is close to a perfect edition of this classic film. :)

I have the R2 disc, and I'll still get the R1 when it's released for lending out and since fox = me. ;)

Richard Kelly said none of the "theatrical cut" extras will be on the new special edition. So it's no shock that a lot of the extras from the R2 edition are not on this edition since most were already on the original R1 DVD.

If only FOX could've pulled a DreamWorks, similar to Almost Famous. Include both cuts of the film and all the extras in one (nice) huge set.

I'm still keeping my original DVD, but still. I'd rather have just one big set and not two small sets. :)

But, there are a lot of the old edition extras on this R2 special edition...i checked. deleted scenes, music video, the promo spots, cunning featurette...

Yeah, the R2 seems to be specifically geared towards the UK, because as was said before, the commentary mentions "R2" and "R1" and talks alot about the UK reaction. The "They Made Me Do It Too" documentary is about the UK cult fan base (and quite condescending to American filmgoers). This set has some of the extras from the original R1 release (like the deleted scenes) I guess because they didn't have them before over there. I won't be buying this R1 Director's Cut. I'll keep the R2 and original R1 versions.

Oh, and the picture you see of Jake on all the websites for the R2 is the cover on the amaray case inside the sleeve with lenticular cover that you posted above. And I got mine for about 20 bucks from CD-Wow.
