Just the usual rumors that Universal wants to eventually do something with the movie. Nothing concrete.

The transfer on the UK disc really isn't very good, and I'm shocked that several review sites have given it high marks. The picture is extremely filtered and has very poor detail and dull colors. The German R2 "Perfect Collection" release looks much better, though has a terrible 5.1 track.

I own many editions of this movie:

This movie needs a cleaned up anamorphic transfer badly.

Dang Josh! I didn't realize that so many merchandisers invested in this flop.
While I like the movie myself, I can't help but wonder how anyone could have looked at the finished product and thought it right to make coloring and activity books.

Eh it was the 80's...people went "Sci fi...Star Wars is Sci fi...this is going to be huge"

And usually most of those movies sucked.

I think Dune is still a pretty good flick...over the top at times, but still a good flick.

It's the only David Lynch movie I don't own on DVD, so I guess I should look into getting it at some point.

How was the documentary? Is it an honest look back?

It's a good piece, very similar in style to the one on the Blue Velvet DVD. There's a lot of honest discussion about why the movie flopped.

Some of that stuff is a real trip. I mean, really, did they think it was a good idea to have little kids color pictures of dead bodies lying on the floor?! That's exactly what appears in the coloring book.

Amazon.de sells it. Be sure to avoid the "Paradise Edition", which looks like crap and is censored. The disc you want is this one:

http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASI...053984-8827212

Or this one (2-disc set):

http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASI...053984-8827212

Be warned that the picture quality is excellent but the English 5.1 mix is atrocious. I have to switch down to the English 2.0.

There is currently no edition of the movie that combines both great picture and great sound.

Cool. While the coloring books must be a trip, I was more surprised by them actually going so far as to make Birthday themed merchandise. I don't recall your site having it, but did they ever try Valentine's Day stuff as well?

Not that I've ever come across. Not many movies get Valentine's Day promotions, so I'd doubt it anyway.

YESSS! The wait ends. I have been so torn by getting some version of the extended version of this or special edition. So many to choose from I just haven't got any version, except the R1 release. Let me add, I've really grown to love this film. When I was young, and I was sucked in by the marketing (action figures and all), I expected a new Star Wars. I remember the studio and news pieces pushing it as that, but, boy, did it let down! Now, as I've grown-up and studied Lynch in grad school along with psychology (and this, like Star Wars is very Jungian), I have grown to really appreciate this film. Lynch has created another marvelous exploration into the unconscious using a Jungian method (Blue Velvet can also be called a Jungian film). I can’t wait!

I've been waiting for at the least a 16x9 redo of the theatrical cut, lets just hope the extended is also. Great news anyway, though didn't they announce Dune as one of their first HD titles? I've gone so long without an enhanced version, can I wait a little longer?

Cant wait.....this will be great!

I have the old R1 and the sci-fi series.

I love both versions. They each have their good points and bad.

The extended edition of it is awesome. It really makes the movie a better experience.

I hoped that the 3-hours extended version is not the Allen Smithee cut that was show on television, that was crappy horrible.

I don't know what else it could be but the Alan Smithee version... but it will also include the original theatrical cut 16x9 enhanced, yes? That's what I'm really after, but I'd consider the inclusion of the longer cut to be a nifty extra.
