Every single copy of Shawshank that I've seen, including the one I own, is just in a normal DVD case that opens right up without any locks, latches, etc...
Even if the word "lock" is scratched off I'm sue we can get an idea of what you mean by just seeing what the case looks like, front and side.

Hi all...instead of taking the pic I decided to return the DVD to Target. They pried it open, breaking the case...to find out it did indeed have some kind of locking mechanism on the inside (as someone here had suggested...thanks!). Anyway they gave me a new one which is just like any other DVD case.
My next stop was Best Buy...where I purchased 4 of the new Jerry Lewis DVD's (Nutty, Cinderfella, Family Jewels and The Bellboy. Funny things is they have the 2 little tabs (also as someone here suggested). Well believe it or not I know how to open these up! LOL
Again...Thanks to everyone who tried to help.

WTF?
First of all, if the key is in the box, and the box is locked . . . well, you see where I'm going with this.
I'd say just wait a few years . . . the DVD should be able to tunnel itself out eventually.
