Slight pauses in North by Northwest?

Sorry if this has been addressed before, but I did a brief search around and couldn't find an answer....

I just watched my Signature Collection North by Northwest last night and noticed a slight pause in the picture at 4:36 into the movie (chapter 3) when Thornhill is leaving his secretary in the cab and just about to enter the hotel for his meeting. It happened two other times in the movie, but don't recall exactly where anymore. Again, it is only a brief pause in the picture, music and sound seemed to stay on track. Is this the case with all the transfers?

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

Never noticed any problems with mine. We just watched it 2 weeks ago.

No problems here with the new Signature disc, spun it last week on a Pioneer 563A.

Nope, no pause here either.

It could be a bad copy of the DVD, or your player might have issues with that particular title. But a few years I experienced something similar to what you are describing, and it turned out to be the laser pickup in my DVD player going bad (fortunately it was a warranty repair --- this is when you couldn't buy a DVD player for less than $500). If you start noticing problems like this on other discs, it might be time for a new player.

Thank you for your prompt responses.

On another viewing, it is in the change from chapter 2 to chapter 3, but is definitely there. I can't for the life of me find the other two instances, but know there were two other places. It is a bit annoying to have the frame freeze, so what do you think are my options in having this disc replaced? I got the set from Amazon, but don't want to have to send the whole set back, just the NBNW disc itself perhaps. Was the original NBNW release absolutely identical to the Signature collection release in terms of the disc and the cover (both front and back), etc.?

Never mind my question about the releases above as I found the answer in another thread:

Yeah, it's the same disc, just a better case.
So that brings me to my other question about my options in trying to exchange my copy for another one. I have a terrible feeling I am going to have to return the whole set to get another one, but is there a way to get in touch with Warner for just a new NBNW? Anybody know?

I sure hope it is not my DVD player like Mr. Salty explained above since I only recently purchased (four or five months ago) my Toshiba 4900 so that I would be multi-region capable....

I get similar pauses with my 4900, but I've only watched non-region 1 discs in it. Have you tried to play the movie using a different DVD player, to see if you get the same pauses?

not sure if it helps but,

last night the Hitchcock class I am in watched North By Northwest (the original version in the snapper), and it had a slight pause during one of the scenes, but that was it.

Mine also came from Amazon and has no problems at all. I think Warner will exchange a faulty disc for what it's worth, and since this release is sold seperately, I doubt if you would have to return the entire box.

If you haven't had any disputes with them in the past, when you fill out the return info on their website they will send you out a new set and you have like 2 weeks or 30 days (don't remember which) to get the other item back to them. Just switch the NBNW with the new one. That's why I buy a lot of my box sets from Amazon, so I don't have to keep checking multiple copies of discs that I already had working. Pretty sure they still do this, but I haven't had to do it for about a year.

You should be aware if you are able to exchange only the one movie for another that there is a risk of getting a snapper case. I think I would just let Amazon send out a new box since they will pay for the shipping on the return and the replacement copy. You could also do what Jcheckel says about keeping your box until the new one arrives.
