So, how many changed their mind?

I must admit that I'm smiling away here, as someone who vowed not to buy this set, it brings a sweet sense of smugness to see so many disappointed with the release. Hey, a few of us tried to tell ya...

Regardless, I'm interested in how many folks changed their mind about buying the set.

TylerDurden_73 10-01-04 04:30 PM

Said I would buy it...Love it

Jackskeleton 10-01-04 04:59 PM

hey, didn't I say that all those who vowed to not buy it because of the lucas child raping, will indeed, buy it in the long run? ;)

You just keep on smilin', there (it's better for your health ;)).

I didn't change my mind about anything. I wanted the set, I bought the set, I am very pleased with the set.

So, what was it, exactly, that you few were trying to tell me?

Fok 10-01-04 05:34 PM

I bet all those people who didn't buy it are dying to see what its like.

Nobody as of yet fits that category, so at this point, you're wrong. :)

Said I'd never buy the set, but caved like a spineless jelly fish

I'm the only one?!?

Rest assured, you're not the only one. You're just the only one (so far) who is willing to publicly admit it. ;)

You bet. That's why I have my copy of the new version of Star Wars sitting here with me from Netflix. I want to watch it & compare it to my anamorphic bootlegs of the original trilogy. I actually plan to watch each one back to back and compare for myself. I already watched a copy of the excellent documentary on the 4th disc so that was not a big deal.

I never said that I did not want to check them out. I just will not support them with my money until the OT is released.

I must admit, I don't give a shit that you feel "smug". Great set, your loss.

(Your poll doesn't seem to support your "smugness", imagine that. )

So, are you glad you got the set?

Sure it does. The vast majority of those who said they wouldn't buy have done just that. Only two folks caved so far.

And it's a private poll, so being afraid to admit it is irrelevant.

mjlukich 10-04-04 11:58 AM

Seems like your poll needs another option. I don't know, maybe something like:

-Said I would buy the set, did, and am disappointed.

jaeufraser 10-04-04 12:38 PM

Considering most of us here knew exactly what was going to be in this set ahead of time, I'm not sure what's really to be disapointted about.

Myself, I love it. I've got beautifully restored Star Wars on DVD, and now I can go sell my LD defnitive collection for way too much money. Yeah, I'm someone who really would not buy the original versions, the difference isn't enough for me to care.

Neil S. Bulk 10-04-04 12:47 PM

I said I wouldn't buy it and I haven't. It's not a movie that I would watch.

Then why in the world would you navigate to a Star Wars-specific forum and take the time to reply if it is not a film you would ever watch?

Sometimes I truly wonder about people.

bboisvert 10-05-04 10:35 AM

Your poll is confusing because of the addition of "and I'm loving it." at the end of the final option. What does loving it have to do with whether or not people changed their minds?

You have no option on your poll for someone said they were going to buy it, bought it, and hated it.
Or someone who said they were going to buy it, bought it, and think it's OK, but don't love it.

DonnachaOne 10-05-04 10:36 AM

Actually, I never said I wouldn't buy the set, but I'm unimpressed with the set, so...

frijj-lover 10-05-04 11:36 AM

can you buy the original originals on dvd?

DonnachaOne 10-05-04 12:23 PM

No, frijj. This has been covered in other threads.

calhoun07 10-05-04 04:30 PM

How about...said I would buy it, but haven't because I am waiting for the DDDVD 20% discount choice?

That's right, because the poll is about changing your mind in regard to purchasing once it was released, not how much folks are enjoying it, hating it, regretting it, etc.

Because it's there.

And because I have been writing extensively about the audio errors made throughout the film formerly known as Star Wars.

Neil

darkside 10-05-04 10:20 PM

I'm thrilled with the current set and would be thrilled with an original trilogy one as well if he ever felt like releasing it which is doubtful. Still the current release was everything promised and an improvement over the 97 versions. The audio errors in ANH or unfortunate and will probably remain unchanged, but overall its a great set. The audio errors in ANH or distracting at times, but did not ruin the film for me.

Really it was pretty much what was promised with an even better documentary than I could have asked for.

So.... You have been LISTENING to the films but not watching. Gotcha.

How have you been "writing extensively" about the "audio errors" if "It's not a movie that I would watch"?

I was going to buy it but then decided not to due to the problems. I may rent it at some point though :)

This thread is asking about who bought the set. I did not buy it. I was able to view an advance copy and was able to make several observations about it. You can read all about it here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here. Note that the first seven were done before the release date.

His point, I think, is that you said "it is not a movie that I would watch", but you obviously have several times for some odd reason (seems like to the point of obsession)...

Also, this thread is about the whole set, not just "it".

I can see where you may have seen them so many times, that "they" are not movies you would watch, but I'm not sure that's your reason.

Neil S. Bulk 10-07-04 09:36 AM

I watched it from start to finish just once. I've done some sopt checks here and there, but the majority of my observations were made from that one viewing. It was enough.

I have even less interest in the sequels.

Neil

Qui Gon Jim 10-07-04 11:33 AM

Thanks, Cow. That was the exact point I was making. I also don't believe that you haven't watched "it" more than once with that extensive (obsessive) list of alterations to the sound mix.

CLEARLY someone that can tell, with one viewing, that the sound was altered must have SOME intrest in Star Wars, taking it out of the category of "it is not a movie that I would watch."

I thought you were BETTER than the mindless trolls that pass through. You presented an extensive list of facts and then stated your opinion.

Your comments are losing credibility with nonsense (bordering on trolling) comments like the originally referenced passage in this thread.

Neil S. Bulk 10-07-04 11:48 AM

You can believe what you like. That list of all the alterations was made with one viewing. I went back and did some spot checks on things to make sure it was accurate, but I've never actually sat down and watched it start to finish more than once.

When I found the rear channel flaw, I was watching the escape from the Death Star and the TIE fighter attack to make sure the music wasn't reverbed, the way it was on all previous mixes.

I regret to inform you that by not wanting to watch this movie and/or not liking this movie you officially cannot be a movie lover.

I THINK I remember reading in another thread that anyone who does not like or has not seen (and has no desire to) any of the original trilogy (special edition or not) can therefore not be a lover of films. The best you can qualify for is REALLY REALLY REALLY like movies.

My condolences. -wink-

Neil S. Bulk 10-08-04 12:57 AM

Oh, don't get me wrong, I love Star Wars. What's represented on that DVD is not Star Wars, but rather another film called "A New Hope".

I watch Star Wars all the time. I'll never watch this new DVD version again.

Or tread into a thread about the DVDs again? (don't think so on both accounts)

Psst; this thread is about the whole set, not just EP IV, a part of the Star Wars saga.
