Backbeat SE Delayed?

Looks like my Backbeat order from Amazon is not shipping with the rest of the discs I ordered to be released this week. Further research shows that the title is not available for purchase at DDD, DVDEmpire, or DVDPlanet. Did I miss the cancellation of this title? It looks like the old disc is OOP as well.

I'm definitely befuddled.

anybody have news?

I have had "Backbeat" on pre-order at DDD for over a month.

Today, I did at search at DDD and they don't even have it listed for sale.

Amazon has it listed with a released date of Sept. 28 (today), but
it looks like they don't have any copies in stock.

Overstock.com claims to have some copies in stock with "high risk" of running out (i.e. they don't have many).

So I don't know who to believe.

Is the DVD really available or not?

Should I cancel my DDD pre-order and go with Overstock?

Since we are the only two guys who seem to care about this movie, maybe that explains why it's not coming out.

I've been searching all over the Web but I can't find any explanation of what happened to the "Backbeat" SE release.

It is listed as coming out Sept. 28, but nobody has it in stock and the Universal Studios DVD website does not list the movie as being available at all.

i have the original version and opted not to upgrade. I guess I wasn't the only one.

If the SE was yanked at the last minute and a few copies got out, we may have another hot collectible.

I was hoping it would come out. The announcement of the SE is the only thing keeping from picking up the first release.

Was there even a difference determined between the two releases? Cuz, from what I gathered, it was the same exact disc, just with a "Special Edition" banner on top. The first release has plenty of special features for a movie that wasn't exactly a hit. I wasn't planning on upgrading since I was pretty sure it was just a different cover, so it's really no skin off my teeth. Sucks though for those who never had a chance to pick it up.

I don't believe there was a difference between the 2003 release and the "special edition."

The SE version is 5.1 sound vs. Dolby stereo, and there are more extra features. Here is a list I found on one site:

* Director's Essay
* TV Featurette
* Feature Commentary with Director Iain Softley
* Iain Softley Interview
* Interview w/ Iain Softley and Ian Hart
* Casting Session
* MTV Music Video Awards performance by the Backbeat Band
* Interview with & photographs by Astrid Kerchherr
* Stuart Sutcliffe Paintings Gallery.

Could somebody with a copy of the "old" version of Backbeat
tell me what features are NOT included on the older version. I may break down and buy the older one since it now seems clear the SE version has disappeared.

I ordered a copy of the SE edition from Overstock.com before they went out of stock. I don't know if I will get anything, but they have not emailed me yet to say it's not coming, so I will wait and see.

From the IMDb:
Audio commentary by director Iain Softley
Deleted scenes
Interview with director Iain Softley
Stills gallery
Interview with Actor Ian Hart
Director's essay
Casting sessions
TV featurette

So it looks like the MTV Video Awards is a new thing ... but have they removed the deleted scenes? I'd rather see those.

I would think deleted scenes would still be there .. the main advanatage of the SE version is the 5.1 sound, that would be my main reason for getting it.

Seems to be a moot point now, though.
