Why is Annie full screen in the special edition?
Why is Annie full screen in the special edition? Why didn't they make the widescreen version? I tried searching the out of print Annie with no luck even on E-Bay.

However, if you're region-free, I believe that r2 is W I D E S C R E E N.

The non-SE widescreen version is a mess. Terrible transfer with horrendous compression quality and misframed in a lot of scenes. There is no good DVD edition of this movie.
That said, your 4 year-old daughter probably won't care, so just pick up whichever copy is cheapest.

Then, of course, the damn thing went OOP shortly after they fixed it. And then the horrible "SE" came out... 1.33:1.
I have the corrected, widescreen edition and I'll live with that for now. But, yes, this is a disc that is badly in need of revisiting. Luckily, Columbia/Tri-Star doesn't seem to be too shy about double/triple/quadruple-dipping.
