Random thought for those clamoring for the Original Original Trilogy...
The actual 1977 theatrical release of Star Wars didn't have the words "Episode IV" in them at all. The opening crawl just has 'A New Hope'. So, the Original Original Original Original Original Original Original Original Original Original Original Original Original Original Original Original version of ANH really really doesn't actually exist anymore. Honestly.
I happen to like the version of ESB on these DVDs. Ian McDiarmid just looks right when Vader is chatting with his Emperor since he is the Emperor in ROTJ, and the reworked conversation makes a lot more sense and has better continuity, especially if you've read Shadows of the Empire.
Of course, everyone knows that Greedo doesn't shoot at all. He just sits there and dies like the little b***h that we all know he is. And, that awful awful replacement dance number in Jabba's Palace is a travesty in every way possible.

the originalx8 just has star wars. ANH was added later. Who cares? people want the unedited version. That is all. is that hard to come about?

Yes, we do. Don't get me wrong, upgraded sound and video would be great. And some of the new stuff is useful, but other stuff is just blatantly dumb. The title I don't care about. I like the saga, it has to fit in.
I don't mind added background animals or a couple of the other scenes. But it would be nice if the additional stormtroopers looking at the escape pod landing site would actually DO something instead of milling about aimlessly.
And substituting Hayden at the very end is silly. Did they do that for Obiwan? No, I guess it's assumed that he just looks different when he's older, just like every other movie where there are flashbacks/forwards with different actors. But we had to change one silly thing for one character. Obviously GL is now catering to little girls, not just little boys.
Also, the part of Han stepping on Jabba is ridiculous. Jabba would never allow that. What, was he in a good mood that day? Gimme a break. They already chopped up the film to make Han go up, should've just made it a jump. Nobody touches a Hutt's tail if it isn't wanted.
Greedo. What can you say? Him shooting is stupid, it doesn't make sense. He's pointing a gun at Han for 2 minutes, but misses by 3 feet? "Purty sloppy shooting, Jake." And all of a sudden blasters (the exact same one in Han's case) make petite little shots instead of big giant bursts of laser light? The scene was perfect, a tough-guy cowboy facing another one down and not afraid to break the rules (not that there are any in Mos Eisley). Now it just doesn't even fit together with itself, let alone Han's or Greedo's personalities or characters.

Someone with good editing equipment could now edit the original original original opening crawl from the documentary on the DVD. I'm glad all the clips on that were from the original original version. It was good to see them.

I was actually thinking about that the other day...there is no reason why clips from the Laserdiscs can not be edited into the new DVDs...of course the difference in quality will be obvious...but it is better than nothing I suppose...

This same thought crossed my mind. But now with all the reports of audio problems with the episode IV DVD, I'm not so sure I'm going to try this
