Return of the King:Extended Edition date?

It was suppose to be the 14th of December from what I remember, then I didn't hear a followup to this. I think thedigitalbits said that that ended up not being the date. So are they going to put this thing out before Christmas or what (they'd be fools not to). Anyone know the date yet, and have some specs?

So do they ever end up getting rid of that silly ring? Or is that only in the EE?

The EE includes a heartfelt scene where despite Frodo's protests, the Terminator decides to jump into Mt. Doom to prevent judgment day.

Except neither Warner Brothers, nor New Line have "officially" announced anything regarding the set. No press release and nothing on their websites... part of me is a little worried about that.

We know it will be BEFORE christmas and in december. So I'm going to say it's safe to assume Dec 14th.

Why would they be fools exactly? At this point, anyone who is going to get it, is going to get it regardless of the date it's released. Except for the exchange of money for product, those sales are nearly a done deal at this point.

I doubt releasing it after Christmas would have a major effect on sales. I know I'd still buy it. There might be a small drop releasing it after Christmas, but I don't think it would be serious.

Shit, I want that box. I hope there is a mail in in which you don't need the receipts, because I doubt I still have mine.

thedigitalbits....

Well, we're now hearing that New Line HASN'T yet officially announced the street date for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King - Special Extended DVD Edition. Earlier today we said that the studio had announced the title for release on 12/14. They had published a 2-page spread in this week's issue of Video Store revealing the street date, SRP and other details. Turns out that the ad got printed prematurely and was retracted. So the street date and other release details are still subject to change. Doh! We've updated the posting below and we'll be sure to let you know when New Line gets their ducks in a row on the release information.
And here is the retraction...

Hmmmm....interesting. Granted the post is fromt the 9th of this month so I don't know if anything has changed.

Edited:: Never mind, I posted prematurely.
Before we go, we've got one great piece of news for you today. New Line has officially announced the DVD release of their 4-disc The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King - Special Extended DVD Edition for 12/14 (SRP $39.99).

Actually I just re-read the article. I am all confused, but it looks like it still is not official on street date. Sorry about all that. I made a rookie mistake.

Darn! I want the box. Already own FOTR EE and TT EE. It would be nice if they offer a mail-in in the ROTK EE for the box.

I could care less about a box that holds the movies. It's just cardboard, and it probably won't be seen as it will be sitting between all of my other DVDs. Awesome looking Return of the King: EE though
