Why is the Star Wars Trilogy silver and not gold? (widescreen)

Hello,
Why is the Star Wars Trilogy (widescreen) silver instead of gold? It doesn't make sense because the first two releases of Episode I and II are gold. Why wouldn't they want to keep it consistent?

Green Jello 09-22-04 10:46 AM

Perhaps it's platinum.

Mikko Rasinkangas 09-22-04 10:49 AM

They matched the coloring with the VHS releases of the 1997 special editions: platinum for WS, gold for P&S...

Personally, I would have liked them to have matched the other dvds...

First place - Fullscreen
Second place - Widescreen
Third place - No screen

I really do not care about the colors, I just wanted them to match the first releases. I have 6 star wars dvds next to eachother and they do not match.

jmj713 09-22-04 11:04 AM

They shouldn't match. They're separate trilogies. Makes sense to me.

2 words: custom covers

Or else buy a Full Screen set JUST for the covers.

thelwig14 09-22-04 11:09 AM

I do not have a good printer to do any custom covers.

FreshOne 09-22-04 11:24 AM

kinko's is your friend

Green Jello 09-22-04 11:26 AM

Anyone know of good custom covers yet? Links?

I vastly prefer the silver. The gold is gaudy IMO.

exactly!

thelwig14 09-22-04 11:40 AM

I agree, I just would like episode I and II in silver.

Kal-El 09-22-04 11:42 AM

Because silver and black is more outer-space-ish.

Daytrip 09-22-04 11:47 AM

gives you more reason to buy the color matching 8-disc uber set next year

fumanstan 09-22-04 11:51 AM

I like the silver. But anyway, i agree they should have matched. Wouldnt be surprised to see a bundle of the prequels come out with the Episode III dvd that matches them.

Get Me Coffee 09-22-04 11:53 AM

I like the silver!

danganet 09-22-04 12:01 PM

Episode I and II WS spines are gold.

Mike Lowrey 09-22-04 12:02 PM

It's PLATINUM (not silver) folks!!!

Which is better than gold.

In an interview/web chat yesterday on www.washingtonpost.com the producer of the DVDs said not to expect a re-release until 2007 which would be the 30th anniversary, and that there would likely be a new set, probably with all six movies and all new extras.

I knew you were, I was just adding some useful info to the thread. ;)

Jackskeleton 09-22-04 02:20 PM

Because as stated, before the prequels, the trilogy color set was like this. don't fuck with what works.

The irony that THIS is what George decides not to fuck with.
