Apparantly, the R2 boxes are made from a thicker paper stock and are much sturdier - also, the amaray case they use for each disc is clear with exposed artwork on the inside of each individual cover.

It's not too big a deal, but why couldn't Fox do this all around?

I'm going to do with it what I always do with flimsy "useless" boxes like this. Pitch it behind my stereo with all my other flimsy useless boxes and just display the four discs on the shelf next to my Ep. I & II discs.

Hey, I'm just glad they came in their own keep cases instead of that insane 9-disc fold-out that was the Alien Quadrilogy. :D

The cardboard box is pretty shit. I think the disks would look better outside of the box next to Ep 1+2.

Mine wasn't stuck like that, but there was a security tag inside the box that had just started to peel away. Maybe that's what's holding yours in the box.

As for the condition, mine was fine because I got it at a B&M and was able to hand select it.

looked through a bunch of the sets at Best Buy. got one that wasn't dinged up or scratched. haha that is until I got home and removed the paper tab thing, it was dinged up under there, oh well.

also the glue that help on the paper tab/siding left a big discoloration on the box itself.

I love the keepcases, I hate the box. I wish it was more sturdier like the Indy box set.

got mine from amazon - kinda bent a little but im not into that stuff as much as others. it doesnt bother me but the case is kinda flimsy.

Come on guys! They *MADE IT* cheap looking. It was definitely a rush job. ANH alone could have been better restored. Lucas himself said he had to come out with the SW DVDs because they were leaking money due to bootlegs. See his interview. I'm sure they know they were leaking literally millions to bootlegs.

When I last looked, there were *8* different distinct bootlegs and that was a few years ago!

Lucas planned to bring out the entire 6 movies in a set three years from now (again see his interview). He's killing two birds with one stone by putting out this stop gap: 1) reducing pressure for bootlegs and 2) double dipping.
You can be sure when the 6 movie set is released all the stops will be pulled out.

Agree with everybody that the box sucks.

I thought it was going to be similar in style to the old Star Wars VHS Box Set from a few years ago, where one box slides into the other.

In regards to the plastic, yes it was thick and I took my time and carefully cut away the plastic using a small pencil type exacto knife. At the corners I cut the plastic diagonally to get over the corners. If you take your time you won't damage the cover by bending the plastic to remove it.

If years down the road, the box falls apart, so be it. I'll probably throw it away and just put them next to the other Star Wars films, which by that time III should be out on DVD as well.

Just wanted to add that a nice idea for the box set would have been something similar to the Toy Story (Ultimate Toy Box) Set from a few years ago. Nice box with the plastic cover that slides over the box and keeps all the discs safely stored inside.

Right now this gets my vote for the worst designed packages for a box set.

Who cares if the outer boxes are denter or dinged - It's a crappy designed box. I tossed mine in the trash. I can't belive George Lucas held this from us for all these years and then allowed this to be released looking like this. I'm VERY DISAPPOINTED!!

This should have been released with a heavy outer box draped in felt or some other nice material. Fans have been waiting for these movies forever and to have them released this way is pretty crappy if you ask me!!

I bet Lucas will read a lot of these e-mails and decide to release a "MORE EXPENSIVE" set the week just before Christmas. I can just imagine it - some poor old man unlocking the doors of Wal-Mart and he being knocked down and trampled as fanatic fans rushing to get there NEW box set of the Star Wars which will also include episodes 1 and 2.


I imagine this crappy box release was done on purpose and another set will be released soon - Can you say MARKETING????

In fact the demand for boots will probably increase, since there are now *2* obsolete versions of the whole trilogy, the OT and SE#1...

I love clear cases with the inside artwork, I was really hope we'd get that over here.

And I agree the box is a little flimsy. I handpicked mine at Fry's (earning a "aren't you going to open it?" comment from some wiseguy), and got the best one I could find. I took them out of it at home though, and put the box on the top of the shelf and put the discs with I and II.

Except the demand for those bootlegs are condensed to what i would call a small minority of fans wanting the "originals." I'd venture that most of the bootlegs moved are from regular people who see "Star Wars on DVD" on ebay or on the street.

Got mine from Amazon yesterday. The shipping box was beaten up pretty bad (actually partially crushed) but when I opened it, the silver box was in great shape :up:

Fox could have made a more sturdy box like Indy. Many anime DVD boxsets are great examples too.

I agree. I love the content of my AQ set but detest the packaging. Several slim cases ala Survivor All Stars would be much better.

Agreed! The Alien Quad packaging is a disaster. Not only is the cardboard slipcase just as flimsy as the Star Wars slipcase, but you have to fold the thing out in this cheap ass snake. My Alien Quad has already fallen to pieces.

I wish I had know about them being release seperately in 2-disc sets.
