Which version of Saving Private Ryan is best?

I was going to buy Saving Private Ryan on dvd but there are a couple versions of it to choice from. I'm not sure if I should get the DTS version or the 2 disc version. Is DTS going to sound that much different from the Dolby 5.1? If the sound is going to be better I would rather have that than some extras that I probably wouldn't watch. Thanks for any advice.

if you can find the 1 disc dts, thats great (it sounds a hell alot better then the dd track. for the 2 disc, for dts, you must get the 4 disc world war 2 collection because thats the only way to get dts.

You should be happy as long as it has DTS!

The DTS track on this movie is considered one of the finest around.

Go with the new two disc DTS edition available in the World War II Collection Box. Not only is the sound awesome, but the second disc has some really cool special features (I particularly liked some of the stuff they had on there about the score with John Williams). In addition, it comes with two really good documentaries that I watched in their entirety (and I'm generally not a huge documentary buff). Get the box set, it's worth it!

Is the DTS track on the World War II Collection Box the same full bit rate DTS track that was on on the old LE DTS single disc?

There was never a full bit rate DTS track. The original was 754 bps.

True, I remembered wrong. So the original and the new one are the same?

The OOP laserdisc edition, that has a stunning Dolby Digital soundtrack that is amazingly even better than the DVD DTS track.
