I actually didn't notice this, but it looks like the preordering of this actually made Grindhouse increase it's production run

Same. I still don't think it's worth it anyway, especially since the final quarter of this year has had/will have so many releases I want. This looks like a nice DVD, but the only advantage I see is being able to play it on my friends' DVD players.

Rypro 525 10-21-05 04:58 PM

just pre ordered it, but after reading the "cut list" to the british version, now i am not sure about what i just bought.
Spoiler:
The BBFC passed off the extensive cuts list with the comment: Cuts required to scenes involving real cruelty to animals and to eroticised sexual violence:
-The killing of a muskrat has been deleted.
-Our intrepid adventurers witness the riverside murder and mutilation of a woman presumably by her husband. We don't get to witness:
-The girl being dragged through the mud and having her legs forced apart.
-The girl struggling and being raped with a wooden dildo.
-The man raising a mudball with spikes and the subsequent shot of genital mutilation.
The following has also been cut:
-Another woman getting raped on the river bank has been removed.
-The disembowelling of a giant turtle has been predictably deleted.
-A monkey gets his head sliced open and its blood is drained into a bowl.
-The kicking of a tethered pig has been removed.
-The rape one of the adventurers by her companians has been reduced.
-The cannibals eventually overpower the adventurers.
-The woman in the party gets stripped and raped.
-The womans death scene is missing nudity shots.
that defently seems like its really nasty

Yeah, this movie is pretty brutal, but it's not THAT bad. I've seen it 5 times or so, but I grew up on this kind of stuff, so I'm incredibly desensitized.

OldBoy 10-21-05 07:09 PM

so is the US release, the complete uncut version? the review at monstersatplay seemed to say so...

also, how many others have had their order ship? i ordered from DigitalEyes and they usually ship a week early, but nothing as of yet which i am surprised...

headrippa 10-21-05 07:09 PM

So is this version fully uncut or what guys ?

Mine has shipped via Xploited Cinema.:D

I'll have it Monday. I'll wait until I give it a viddey before tossin' out a comment. I will say that I've been very happy with my limited EC 2-discer. With this new release...I have now triple-dipped.

joliom 10-21-05 09:56 PM

Which version does Netflix carry? That's the one I've seen. Is it the "cut" version?

Netflix hasn't ever carried a version of Cannibal Holocaust.

Leechboy 10-21-05 11:15 PM

Has anyone received a shipping notice from DDD?

kitkat 10-22-05 01:25 AM

Netflix has the new one listed.

I haven't yet. Sometimes the smaller titles don't ship until release date, or even after. I'm assuming they might not get those in stock right away unlike the titles from a larger company like WB or Sony.

ShagMan 10-22-05 08:56 AM

no shipping notice yet from DDD :(

And anyone who wants to meet the director himself, and lives within the proximity of Dublin in Ireland, should head to horrorthon from the 28th to the 31st October (www.horrorthon.com)

Yes they have.

They must have upgraded the artwork (or are preparing to switchover their rental copies to the new GrindHouse version). I rented it about a month ago. The pic on their site was different then. It was this artwork:

It was the Substance DVD. Possibly uncut, but a terrible transfer.

I was trying to figure that out myself.

The best I can tell is that there were some scenes cut that are present in an "alternate version" (or alternate scenes?), that are on the disk as extras.

What confuses me is the talk of the normal version and the "animal-cruelty free" version. How do I know which is which? This is something I'd pick up but want to pick up the "real thing" and not any censored versions, including an "animal-cruelty free" version.

And from imdb's trivia (not the complete trivia, just some I thought were interesting):

The film is one of the top ten highest grossing films of all time in Japan.

The film caused some scandal in Italy at the time, and had trouble with the censorship board. There was a rumor that the performers had really been slain, so director Ruggero Deodato had to take the actors with him to the set of an Italian TV show in order to prove that they hadn't been eaten alive.

The in-film-documentary "The Last Road To Hell", which features several executions, consists of authentic footage. Supposedly from Uganda. "The Last Road To Hell"-footage can only be seen completely uncut in the EC-UltraBit DVD (which includes executions of children).

This movie has gained the title of the most notorious movie of all-time, holding the world record for the movie banned in the most countries (in almost 60 countries).

I believe so, I wasn't sure if the "animal-cruelty free" version was a stand alone version, or an option on the menu.

So... if I buy the DVD, I'll get the footage of the animals being killed in the movie itself, as well as the documentary with the kids being killed (executed)?

I just read the DVDTalk review and it says this:

Disc One: First off, the film can be viewed in no less than three different ways, in original, uncut theatrical form, in an animal cruelty-free version (which speaks for itself), and in an on camera commentary version (you view the film with commentary and a little icon pops up that connects you to footage of director Ruggero Deadato and actor Robert Kerman during the commentary recording)— Feature Length Commentary by director Deadato and Kerman. Pretty good, keeps moving, mainly anecdote driven ("We got stuck in the mud there"), but informative and light.
From that I deduce that we will get the uncut version (with animal killings and the documentary) as an option, an animal cruelty free option, and the commentary option.

Hope that helps.

I was wondering if any B&M would be carrying this. BB has it listed on their website.
