Wow. People get so testy. So I 'm looking at the DVD spines of the movies listed above, and the only one with a number on it is the new "Predator"... what am I missing?

preadator and planet of the apes are in my collection and are numbered 15 and 14 respectively. i have seen the alien "quadrillogy" disc with numbers 10,11,12,and 13 ...so i am assuming that there are discs 1-9 somewhere out there ..

shap: i have :
abyss SE (silver 2-disc)
fight club (paper package)
die hard (box set)
independance day (5 star)
planet of the apes limited ed

The first pressing of fight club has no number on it just a pic of tyler on the spine. The 2nd pressing though has a white 9 on a redish brown background. If your Fight Club doesn't have it, you have the more valuable, better transfer, better packaging OOP release. As far as the ones with the number on them, they all suck. Fox is horrible when it comes to packaging on their digipaks.

Kind of true. We all love most of these Fox releases but Fox really does suck. Especially these new digipaks with the number on the spine. If you don't have the number on the spine, you have a better version. Unless it is something like Predator which is better than the previous 1 disk release. But if the packaging is the same, number of disks, etc., but no number on spine, that's the better version.

nova: There's absolutely ZERO difference between the Fight Club releases (or the others for that matter). The transfers are the same, the extras are the same, etc... There's nothing "better", the packaging is simply "different". So you prefer keepcases, great, but it doesn't make the DVDs any "better". In the case of Fight Club, the paper is a higher quality glossy stock, so I dunno why you would think the first pressing is better... And the Alien films are much better off (IMHO) in the two-disc digipaks, that Quadrilogy box is some of the worst packaging I've ever seen.

Flynn: What you're missing is that you don't own any of the re-releases. #1 thru #9 are/were Best Buy exclusives, IIRC.

As long as you don't get the single disc release of Fight Club that comes in a keepcase you're safe. Horrible cover IMO.

With the Alien stand alone discs, you miss out on the ninth disc.

The new fight club packaging is ugly. I like the cloth cardboard way better. My friend has the new release and the plastic case that holds the discs in has aready detached from the "new, better, more durable" packaging.

Relax there killer. I never even mentioned the single disk Fight Club in its keepcase. I was talking about the ORIGINAL DIGIPACK with no number on the spine. For one, it doesn't have a detail sheet GLUED onto the back like the new re-release did. And if you pay closer attention to both the original 2 disk release and the re-release (#9), there is a difference. For one, not that it really matters, but the actual colors used on the label side of both disks are brighter but washed out on the re-release over the originals that have sharper, more vibrant colors. The transfer is slightly different too. There were a couple of digital artifacts present in the rerelease that were not on the original 2 disk release. I can see how many prefer the individual CE's of the Alien movies but IMO I like the packaging of the Quad. True having so many disks unfold like that might appear to be a little flimsy, but I think it's pretty solid packaging.

Yup, I know. My keepcase comment was about the other re-releases. French Connection, etc, not Fight Club.

That's true abouut the case differences, which is what I said... It's "different". "Better" is purely subjective... As for the transfer, I own both versions of the two-discer. Is there a link somewhere on the net that shows any difference between the transfers? Cause I'm not buying it...
