EDIT -- if you want to filter out any Full Frame/Pan & Scan titles if there are any clear the boxes next to both of those choices too and it'll show you JUST widescreen non-Anamorphic titles.

When transferring a new widescreen film, there is no excuse not to make it anamorphic. But some of these catalog titles have limited sales potential and the studio doesn't want to spring for a new transfer when they already have something ready.

Re: Anamorphic vs. non-anamorphic DVDs
Is the 1991 film "Career Opportunities" anamorphic or non anamorphic ?
It says 2.35:1, DVD was released by MCA Home video around '98.
I run it on my laptop, smaller screen with annoying black borders, expanding image just makes Jennifer Connelly look fuzzy lol.
The Blu Ray will be released by Kino Lorber on June 22.
When they did this DVD, did they just take the transfer off a laserdisc ?
How different is a Blu Ray transfer than a DVD transfer pertaining to this movie ?

I’m not surprised that on a laptop it is hard to tell, but displayed properly on a widescreen TV it should be easy to tell that the transfer is anamorphic (again, unless dvdcompare is wrong). That being said, I’m sure that it doesn’t look great, and a new BD will likely look leaps and bounds better. DVD discs can only hold a small fraction of what a BD disc can hold, and there’s usually no comparison.
