A fluke? This is a privately owned website that covers what they choose to cover and doesn't have to answer to anyone.

Besides, coverage of anything LOTR is a big time hits guarantee. Covering those DVDs makes perfect sense, because everyone wants to know about the extras, the quality, etc.

The Passion is just that... The Passion. Same movie in theaters, no extras. And its audience isn't known for scouring the web looking for details about bitrate and audio options.

I was just trying to follow your logic that if a movie makes alot of money and it's release date is well-known then it doesn't need any more coverage.

I agree this is a privately run website and whatever they want on it is up to them. however, we are talking about one of the top grossing movies...to omit that from your "movie/dvd" site is a bit strange. I hated the movie Titanic but i would definately have it on my web page if i was running a dvd/movie site. if i claim to be a website that deals with this form of entertainment i would definately not leave it out.

i would like to see more on the passion release but if nothing comes...oh well...i can look somewhere else for it but i find it funny its not here.

just my take.

Yes, why intensely cover a bare-bones release that sells itself and whose audience isn't going to contribute to the growth of your website?

Because it's a DVD website, and this a DVD? I dunno.

Though I disagree with it not being listed, it IS their site and the owners can do what they want.

They're just not fair and balanced. That's all. That's ok. Their site.

Actually if we use the FOX definition of "fair and balanced" I think we are just fine.

If anyone honestly believes that The Passion is not intentionally being "overlooked" here, well, I've got some beautiful oceanfront property in Kansas to sell you. But, as so many have said, it's his site, he can do as he pleases. Too bad, as I've always assumed this place was above that kind of nonsense.

Maybe to talk about the audio/video quality for those who care, or to criticize the lack of extras, or to let people know that since a special edition is inevitable, they'd probably be better off waiting?

I don't think there's any conspiracy and I don't think dvdtalk HAS to post a review for anything. However, the omission was certainly obvious, not to mention deliberate, and it appears it's ruffled some feathers. If dvdtalk doesn't care about that, that's cool, but they should at least know about it--which I'm guessing is the purpose of this thread.

Just for the record, I'm not a religious person and I still consider myself a liberal, just not a dumb ass liberal.
Sure you're not... now go pick up your pre-ordered copy of the Passion at Wal-Mart and hurry home so you don't miss any of the GOP convention highlights on Fox News.

I'm also guessing that The Passion wasn't sent to many internet critics, because it generally sells itself at this point and advance reviews aren't worth much.

I don't see reviews of it at File, Bits or HTF either. Is it a massive internet DVD website conspiracy or is there actually the realistic reason of not promoting what you don't have.

First off, how is it not mentioned in the "notable dvd's of the week" column? It's not only mentioned, it shapes the whole column!
Secondly, there's no link for purchase? So what? To my mind, that speaks of integrity. ( IE, IF (and that's a big IF) TPOTC is being deliberately downplayed, then the absence of a sponsor link for purchase MIGHT indicate a refusal to profit from that film. COULD be quite a principled move.)
And finally, don't like it? Tough. You establish a site like this, you put in the years of work that Geoff has, and guess what? You get to feature what you want to, and ignore what you don't. Welcome to America.

I agree. It's an obvious intentional oversight, and its a bit surprising to me, but it doesn't really bother me in the end.

Yes, it has been (http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=381534). Given that is the case, I don't see any reason to repeat the discussion here.
