I think this will sell well, because the film itself proved there was a market/ desire for such fare. I am going to wait on the SE myself because I am a Christian who loves special features. Besides, my roommate is buying the barebones. So, I can wait until Easter or whenever the SE comes out.

I was told today that I am not a true Christian because I wouldn't want to watch this movie atleast once every week.
I'm guessing the tv evengelists are pimping this disc pretty hard? thats where this person always get their "ideas" from. |
Maybe people will buy this just to have it, and maybe watch it once a year, at Easter or Christmas.
Again, I just can't understand why or how people would want to see this movie over and over again. I don't have the religious convictions, and I don't think I could endure it repeatedly. |
Although the disc is barebones, the audio/video is exceptional.

Originally posted by Altimus Prime I was at Target today and saw Passion DVDs piled up in THREE different locations in the store. Seems to support my personal idea this won't sell well on DVD. Why? Well, I'm not a religious person, but I wanted to see this movie, and I did see it. It's a powerful, well-made film, a true experience, and should be seen - once. I was in a packed theater where there were people who I was amazed didn't collapse or leave in tears because they couldn't take it. Given that, I can't fathom why anyone would want to watch this movie repeatedly, which is a standard I use when deciding what DVDs to buy. Conversely, there was only one of the Star Trek first season sets. I bought that. Your theory hasn't had time to fully play out. In a lab you give experiments time to actually do something. It's tuesday morning/noon. You wont see sale numbers till the end of a few days. Target has piles because they are expecting it to sell well. Frankly they have different locations stocked with it on items that they know will sell. Religious folks saw this film a couple of times. I don't understand it either, but it's a way to see their faith as proof or something. I think this well sell very well because those people don't really care about extra's and aren't all that much into dvds to begin with aslong as the film is there. It will sell well. |

(drumroll) * * * * * * * It's a good movie. Beautiful visuals. Terrific pacing. Good acting. Some unforgettable imagery. Excellent soundtrack. Emotionally powerful. It's well-made, plain and simple and Gibson's belief in the material is evident in every frame. So that pretty much shits on your adamant theory that only "religious folks saw it a couple of times". ALL KINDS of people saw it numerous times, not necessarily because it's religious or they themselves are religious but because THE FILM FLAT-OUT WORKS AS A FILM. Audiences tend to see good films more than once, whether it's about Jesus, Santa Clause, Communism, whatever and whether they believe in the film's message or not. Hey, what a concept. |
These disks were selling in droves at my local Wal-Mart in Orlando, FL. More than half the people I saw walking around the store had a copy and the store was packed today for some reason. I guess since there is another Hurricane threatening. I didn't pick it up because I also don't see this having a whole lot of rewatchability. I haven't seen it yet, but I'll probably rent it in the next couple of weeks.

My parents, who've gone to like one other movie in the past 10 years, went to see this. Billy Graham said something like this movie could touch the lives of ppl that it would normally take 20+ years of evangelism to do. Christians will have this to show to ppl that they're tryin' to tell about Christianity. I myself will buy this just to tide myself over until the SE arrives which I will gladly double dip on. |
I'm going to pick this one up eventually at blockbuster for 8 bucks...

I never knew how many crispy-critters were around here 'till this damn dvd was announced.:D |
Im waiting... you know they cant resist a double dip.

I would think Gibson couldn't ignore selling a SE around Xmas and raking in perhaps more dough than at the box office.

I'll wait for the SE.

Confused
Is it my imagination?
This film is the biggie of the week, yet doesn't appear to be listed in the "Coming Soon"/"New Releases" list. What gives? |
INCREDIBLE DETAIL
Wow. The scene where Jesus dies which is about 1:52:00 into the movie you can actually see his right pupil dilate just like a real person dying. Incredible detail. A++++

To answer the original question of the topic, yes there will be a better edition out later, possibly by Easter or Christmas of next year.

I liked the movie a lot and will likely buy the DVD because it is such a compelling story but I agree with Altimus that it is not one of those movies you watch repeatedly. (see other thread about most re-watched/non re-watched movies)

The SE is going to come with a free ticket to heaven.
