Does anyone do movie marathons? My friends and I always had Move Night, where we'd dig out the best horror movies and watch them until dawn. It was great, but there's not a lot of time for that anymore. Does anyone take a weekend to zone out with a pile of DVDs, or host a gala movie watching event?

Nah, it doesn't seem like people would pay attention through more than one.

I have had the same experience, Tarantino. Most of my friends only have the patience for one movie a night, although I can sometimes squeeze in some TV stuff as well.

I used to have lots of marathon nights, but I guess you grow up, get a job and all that good stuff. It doesn't help that I have a night schedule and have Wednesday and Thursday as my off days. No one wants to do much on those days.

Consequently, I rely on having my own personal marathons.

With a wife and kids, this is out for me. I remember the good old days when I'd rent 3 tapes and watch all of them in the same night. But not anymore. I would if I could, but not when my wife and kids are up at 7 on a Saturday. Guess I'll have to wait till the kids are older before I can sleep in on Saturdays again.

You just described my life except for I have Monday and Tuesday nights off. Same thing for me back in the day too.

I've had a few horror marathons with friends. We did all the Friday the 13th movies (9 at the time) one night/day. there was a vampire movie marathon, and other random horror groupings. Usually its between 5-6 movies. Since we all went to college, we haven't done it though.

Most of my friends are to busy/lazy to do them reguarly so we watch maybe 1/2 one night a week and all night on Halloween.. (horror movies)

But I dont mind just watching by myself.

My son has been known to throw in one movie after another but I don't call that a marathon per se'....as for having friends over to do so, nope. I just have my own on weekends I have no plans and want no plans other than watching movies

I keep meaning to do a John Carpenter Marathan, including They live, Halloween, Assault on preceint 13 and Escape from New York. But its just finding the time.

If I do a marathon it's usually if I get sick or have multiple days off in a row. (the latter very rarely happens)

I tend to do that every saturday night.. See i work midnight shifts (12am-8am) so i've got to find a way to stay up until about 10-11am sunday morning.. So when i get in from my partying, around 1-2 am, i'll watch 4-5 movies until i'm tired...


a few weeks ago i wasn't feeling too good so i did about 11-12 movies in one day... don't think i'll be doing that again

The last time I did my Film Fest (which is a movie marathon in essence), I just laid out the list and times, and let people decide what they wanted to watch. There was only one movie (out of a total of 16 over 1 weekend) where I was alone for it, so it worked out great.

My wife and I have started doing that on Sundays. That is the day we both have off and just spend relaxing, so we'll watch a handful of movies for a little while. This Sunday, we are viewing all 3 of the Crow movies, so it's possible we may nix the marathons in the future. j/k.

My husband and I will have a movie night, but it's nothing like the marathons we used to have in the past. Normally for movie night we will pick 3 movies that have something in common. Last night was Sean Patrick Flanery night. We watched Boondock Saints, Suicide Kings, and Best Men. We will have a military night and watch things like We Were Soldiers, Saving Private Ryan, and The Patriot. Marathons of the past would be 6 and 7 movies, at least. I'm just too old to stay up that late anymore LOL

When ever a Complete Season of Buffy, Angel, Alias, or Dawson's Creek came out, me and my friends would get together at somebodies house on a friday night, and watch the entire set throughout the weekend (usually at my friends Cabin about 20 minutes from here)... and when their weren't any new DVD Seasons, we would have really long marathons like every friday the 13th film or all the non-freddy wes craven movies and such... but are last marathon was DAwson's Creek Season 3, and since we all just left for college, im sad to say that was probably the last one.

Most of my marathons are done all by myself. If I could stay awake I would pull an all-nighter, Ive pulled it off a couple times. Once was a BTVS marathon Season 1 all night (that sounds like fun to do again actually). Usually what I do with movie marathons would be doing all from one series during a day off. My most recent movie marathon was American Pie. All 3 in one day, not really much of a challenge to do though, they are pretty short.

Seems like movie marathons are a lot more fun when you have other people around, I have participated in a couple of those before. Seems like everybody falls asleep at some point though

I used to do a halloween marathon that lasted all night. Starting with the classic Universal titles and ending with Romero's Dead Trilogy. Was a lot of fun to do but now, if I can get in a couple of flicks on a Saturday evening, I'm doing a whole lot.

We have a group of 5-10 people that watch the WWE PPV's every month or so. Most of the time we put in the DVD of the previous years PPV and watch it before the recent PPV starts.

Since this year was Wrestlemania 20, some members of the group decided to watch the previous three Wrestlemanias in a row including all the extras. They watched Wrestlemania 17 on Saturday night, Wrestlemania 18 on early Sunday morning and then Wrestlemania 19 on Sunday morning/afternoon thus ending an hour or so before Wrestlemania 20 started. (Since I had to work the morning shift on "Wrestlemania 20 Day", I only was able to get there for last half of Wrestlemania 19.)

As for myself: Sports Night, Scream, History Of Soccer and yes, all three Mighty Duck movies!

Just a thought here, but have you tried simply telling your wife that you'd like to do a movie marathon and could she please take the kids somewhere for a while? Maybe she and kids could visit grandparents on a Saturday so you can watch movies.

I hope you're able to work something out - sounds like you really miss your single days.

Once the Return of the King Extended Edition comes out, I'm going to attempt a 12-hour Lord of the Rings Extended Edition marathon. Will I succeed? Who knows.

I'm lucky to have a movie marathon where I watch one movie a night for a week (where I try a theme for a week - sequels, horror, etc.)

I've already started my Halloween marathon. With about 40 horror/monster films I want to watch this year, I needed to get an early start so I could fit them all in before the end of October.

Ditto. I already have 2 other buddies willing to join. I think our key will be starting them early (maybe 10am?) in order to avoid getting tired.
