the Day After Tomorrow R1 DVD
Some sites lists the R1 "the Day After Tomorrow" DVD as having 5.1 DTS audio & others listing 5.1 DD audio only.
So which is it?

It irritates me that they are double dipping this one, when all other countries get a really cool sounding two disc set. At least the one disc is not entirely bare bones, but still....

The fact that the R2 set is an SE and the R1 is just a basic release is definitive proof that studios are starting to specifically target the U.S. for re-release double dips. They know they can get away with making more money from us movie geeks, so they are planing it out ahead of time.

There was a very good article about double dips in Video Store magazine. One of the main reasons that the studios are releasing the basic movie first then a feature filled special edition is 1) The theatrical to dvd window is so short 2) That they do not have time to do the special features they want to do 3) They know that the hardcore dvd fans and completists will not care about spending another $15-20 on another release and 4) This allows them to extend the product's life. For me, if they can get a region 2 with all the special features they can do a region 1. Like Green Jello said, they know that many will buy these double dips.

the 2-disc set looks pretty awesome.. the main doc is almost 70 minutes, then there's a 30 minute doc on just the visual effects, and a whole lot of other featurettes.. i don't see why anyone would ever want to buy the 1-disc set if they liked it enough to want to own it..
rent it, wait for the 2-disc.. or import the R2 2-disc.

Beware!!!
Double dipping might backfire. If it has DTS now than it might not have it when it gets double dipped.
