Hope its not old news... just ran across this by accident.

Directors Cut DVD coming on December 7.
TV premiere on SCI FI on November 13.
Rated R for violence/gore, sexual content and language.

More terrifying...more riveting...and hotter than ever!
Mankind's number is up in this thrilling third installment of the Species franchise! Featuring eye-popping special effects, knuckle-whitening suspense and the dazzling performance of sexy newcomer Sunny Mabrey, Species III is the most jarring, action-packed chapter in the sci-fi series yet!
In the ongoing fight for supremacy between mankind and human/alien hybrids, a fatal hybrid weakness has given humans the advantage. Until now. When Sara (Mabrey), the daughter of Eve (Natasha Henstridge) is born, she grows into the most genetically perfect alien form yet! Seeking to repopulate her kind, this dangerously beautiful femme fatale heeds an overwhelming drive to mate...while a crack military team trails her in an attempt to end the war between our two species forever!

Good guestion. I guess they are calling it that as a marketing gimmick or just because it will be different from the TV version which airs first. *shrug*

I doubt it can match the hilarious jawdropping heights of camp masterpiece that is Species 2
So no I am not really looking forward to it. It would be a letdown if it does'nt even come close to the laugh factor part 2 offered. Pure unadulterated exploitation fun from begining to end.
But I may check it out as a curiosity sometime and hope it is at least tolerable. But somehow I am doubting that.

If it's going to premier on SCI-FI, may God help us.

Damn, any chance we could avoid Maxim spreads in threads outside the Mature forum? It can be a little embarassing if someone is checking out threads at work.

Davisdvd has confirmed the details today...
MGM Home Entertainment will release the sci-fi sequel Species III onto DVD on December 7th. Full details aren't available quite yet, but look for the title to be released in both R-rated and unrated versions with a retail price of $25.98. A tame version of the film will be aired on the Sci Fi Channel on November 27th, which also will serve as a marketing promotion for the DVD. A special edition DVD re-release of the original Species is due on October 19th.

As far as I know, Species scored the R rating with it's first try at the ratings board. I don't know if there were scenes on the cutting room floor with more nudity, but who knows. As it seems, all the SE DVD will contain are commentaries and a sneak peek at part three.
Species II has the footage (four specific scenes) that originally got the film the NC-17 in the DVD's deleted scenes section.

They released an unrated cut of Species on VHS several years ago, I know because I have a copy.
