That would explain why Prisoner of Azkaban is going to be a keepcase when the first two Harry Potter releases were digipaks.

That sucks, if they release the first couple movies one why they should continue that way for the rest of the series! Plus I don't like Warner's Keep Cases because they never come with inserts!

I'll take durability over an insert any day of the week.

Besides, to me, only inserts with "liner notes" are worth having. An insert that only has advertising or a list of the chapters is, to my mind, a waste of time and resources.

I actually like the inserts cuz of the chapter listings.

I already discounted that theory on page 1. Goodfellas in a digipak would look stupid in the Scorsese box set since the others are in keepcases. Thus I see that as a valid reason for the keepcase in this example.

I don't believe they've dumped digipaks. Two examples doesn't seem very conclusive. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

So what if your digipack gets a little beatup what are you gonna do throw it away? Sometimes I just think you guys have a little too much time on your hands.

Ted The Bug 08-27-04 02:24 PM

Is the upcoming 2-disc Iron Giant a keepcase or digipack?

How about Shawshank Redemption 2-disc?

Gothika 2-disc?

We know the upcoming Harry Potter 3 2-disc is a keepcase...

RagingBull80 08-27-04 04:11 PM

I agree that the digipaks should go.

Am I the only one who thinks that they scratch your DVDs up. When I bought my Once Upon a Time in America and One flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest they had a little wear on them. They also were hard to get out without bending the discs and you had to drag them across the case to get them out causing some wear.

fumanstan 08-27-04 04:35 PM

None of my DVDs in digipaks are scratched.

MEJHarrison 08-27-04 05:09 PM

My digipaks are all in pristine condition and my discs are in great shape too. I like them and hope they don't go away. This thread hasn't caused me to start worrying quite yet.

The nail in the coffin:

Why Warner? Why? We loved the digipacks!!

PopcornTreeCt 08-28-04 01:46 AM

Although we do have The Shawshank Redemption with:

And then this:

And Gone With the Wind is really nice:

So it looks like digipacks aren't entirely dead just maybe for 2-discs they are.

steelpotato 08-28-04 03:42 AM

Slightly off topic but gosh that Shawshank cover looks infinitely better than that earlier tropical island abomination that was being lobbied around.

You are not the only one. Extracting the Harry Potter DVD's from Warner's digipack without bending them is impossible !

THX-1138 is in a digipack! Kudos to Warner Brothers for keeping this type of packaging alive.

I also like the digipacks.

I am happy to be getting more and more keep cases from warner, but than mgm goes and does digi pack for the up comming raging bull se. This is friggin stupid, you can't win with these studios. Why they all just can't get on the same page with a standard package across the board.

Because making DVD's stand out attracts buyers and adds to the "collector's" tilt of them. I think they look nice :)

Death to digipaks, long live keepcases!

I don't want to say "I Told You So". So I won't. :D

Damn that's going to look funky next to the other two. Looks like I'll need to print up some inserts.

My vote is for keepcase.

Is "the snapper" the shitty cardboard cases with the big snapping flap, or is it those keepcases with the two locking snaps on the side (my girlfriend bitches up a storm everytime she gets a dvd with those things on it, luckily my movies are free of that nuiscance)?

fumanstan 09-17-04 03:39 PM

"snapper" is the cardboard cases

We dont really have a name for the keepcases with the hinges on them... cookie for whichever DVDTalk member creates one and sees it used on a regular basis :)
