Another Scorsese box on the way

From Digital Bits:

. MGM also has a Martin Scorsese Film Collection tentatively due in early 2005, which will include a New York, New York: Special Edition, a Raging Bull: Special Edition, The Last Waltz: Special Edition and Boxcar Bertha.

The Last Waltz just came out in 2002, so I don't think that it will be new version.

That sucks, since I already have it. Oh well, I'll probably get it.

About time they revisited Raging Bull. I've been waiting for a proper special edition forever. I don't really care about New York, New York though.

The R2/PAL SE of Raging Bull has been out for a few years, and includes the following:

26 Minute Documentary About Jake La Motta
A Collection Of Jake La Motta's Jokes
Stills Gallery
Rare La Motta Title Fight Footage
3 Postcards
16 Page Booklet
Widescreen 1.85:1
Dolby Surround
Running Time 123 Minutes

Hopefully the Region 1 will have some extras of more substance.

What are the chances they can license the Criterion commentary?

I knew that when they initially announced this box, they said there would be two ... but I hadn't expected a special edition of 'Boxcar Bertha', well, ever... but I was expecting 'Casino'. (And hoping for 'Kundun'.)

This box kinda sucks a bit. I mean, it has his two worst movies and a movie I already have. If they don't have some kind of box-set exclusive bonus disc, I expect I'll only buy 'Raging Bull'. (at least, at first.)

Agreed. They just released Boxcar last year (not interested), and the version of Last Waltz out there is pretty damn good (and packed)...my guess is theyre just going to throw them in there and theyre not upgrading either.
I do want NY, NY, especially if its a longer cut...just for history's sake. My guess is they'll mess this one up too.
I wouldve like to have seen ItalianAmerican as a special feature on the Mean Streets disc, as Scorsese has mentioned it was kind of a companion piece to MS (see the book 'Scorsese on Scorsese').
I assume the 5th disc would be another Scorsese film owned by Warner.

Yeah, another thread said it's the same versions of both of those.

I really dont want Boxcar, but I do want NY, NY, especially if its a longer cut...just for history's sake. My guess is they'll mess this one up too.
You mean, you want it *even* longer? Jeez, you're a glutton.

I'd prefer it if the disc had the cut without 'Happy Endings', and put that in as a deleted scene, but that may just be me.

I read somewhere (I think it was the Criterion forum) that there was a 'NY NY' LD with commentary and other good stuff (not a Criterion), so, if that's true, I hope they can use that or something. And, also, they hopefully restored it, 'cause Scorsese said the print's in bad shape.

This box is MGM, though. And we're both assuming there will be a fifth disc...

Youre exactly correct, MGM...my fault. So...this would be a completely different animal and would not include a 5th.

As far as NY, NY...its slow at times and not something I would watch often, but its not terrible, and like I said for history's sake it should be restored and loaded with stuff and released on DVD as a SE at least once.

I believe Digital Eyes posted that the Raging Bull SE would be coming out in December a short while back.

It would be nice if they could include "Raging Bullwinkle" from Hardcore TV as an easter egg.

"You sucked Mr. Peabody's cock???"

With Mario Cantone...one of the funniest things I've ever seen in my life.

That's awsome. I've been waiting for Raging Bull. Now all I want is a decent Casino, The King of Comedy, and The Color of Money.

I want all of those, plus an anamorphic Age of Innocence and Kundun and a nice SE of Gangs of New York.
