Voltron Is Coming!!

Man oh man, I'm excited:

Voltron: Defender of the Universe - ACTIVATE INTERLOCK! World Events says that DVD deal is imminent!

It's been since last December when we first told you that Voltron: Defender of the Universe would come to DVD in 2004...in time to celebrate the show's 20th anniversary!

You may have think we've forgotten about it (some of you wrote in and said as much!), but I've kept in touch with World Events Productions, making sure these were still in-the-pipe. They are, and now we have an actual announcement via the website of the property-holders of Voltron. Well, it's more of a FAQ/update, but it will ease your minds considerably:

VOLTRON DVD INFO:

We've literally received thousands of emails from fans who are incredibly anxious to see the original Voltron series on DVD. TRUST US, we are just as anxious as you and are SO close to signing a deal. As we always respond in our emails, any new info will FIRST be posted at this website.

SO... STAY TUNED TO THIS WEBSITE FOR A MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT.

In the meantime... here are answers to a few of the most commonly asked questions as it relates to the DVD deal.

Will Voltron be released on DVD?

ABSOLUTELY- we plan to release both the lion and vehicle series in their entirety, though final say on this will belong to the company that we select to put out the DVD.

When will the DVD deal be complete?

ANY DAY NOW! Really you should check the website daily because the day you forget is the day that we will post the big news. We really think it will be within the next 30 days.

What kind of extras will be on the DVD?

Again, the company that puts out the DVD will have final say on this but we're going to make sure that we supply them with the most and best footage possible. We have special never before seen interviews in the works, JAPANESE footage, news clips and features from the original series, and MUCH more!

Our thanks to reader "Dre" for making sure we knew about this. The company just posted that info at 6PM last night, so it's very fresh news! We'll keep an eye on World Events' website for you, and keep talking to them, and we'll be sure to fill you in on all the details once this gets announced. Stay tuned!!

Weird, I just downloaded and watched the first few episodes of the lion version of the show this morning. I'd pick this one up, too. I'd also love to see an English-subtitled release of the Japanese original show, Golion, but I doubt that'll happen.

I'll pass on the vehicle Voltron, though. I didn't like it at the time, so I'm not really interested in nostalgic suck

Wouldn't it be neat if they had worked something out with Animeigo to do the Golion series. I doubt it, but hey, anything's possible.

God, I hope the sound is better than the Battle Of the Planets* discs.

The article is pretty vague about the distributor. I only hope it's not Lion's Gate (aka the worst company ever to release TV on DVD).
