Brotherhood of the Wolf Question

Does anyone know of any differences in these two versions besides the cover:

Well, one seems to be the French Canadian version and the other, just the standard Canadian version. The US version is only a single-disc deal. And if you can't understand French, watching the extras and listening to the commentaries are about worthless.

From what I understand, the extras are all subtitled.

I'm in Canada and both 3 disc sets have the same content.

Get the english cover and you'll save $23.53

That's what I was hoping . Do you know for sure if the extras have English subs?

I bought the top one from amazon.ca, and except for the director/actor commentaries which are French only on disc 1, the extras on discs 2 and 3 are all in French with optional English subtitles.

WAAAIIIIITTTTT!!!!!!!!
Don't get the Canadian version of The Pianist. Yes, it's three discs, but it's the same content as the US version with is a DVD-18, plus a soundtrack. Much more importantly, they f'ed up the transfer on the Canadian version. You're much better off with the US version. I'm sure you can find more infor if you do a search.

Canadian "Brotherhood of the Wolf" =
Canadian "The Pianist =

I remember when digitaleyes.net had the best pre-order deal on the Canadian 3-disc Brotherhood of the Wolf. A lot of people on this board ordered it, including myself.

There was much talk about the shoddy transfer of the 3-disc and how the single U.S. Universal disc eclipsed it.

I have a standard 27" television and both versions of The Wolf. I agree that the transfer qualities between the two are evident and if I could go back in time I would not have ordered the 3-disc.

I watched several of the documentaries on the 3-disc and was bored. It still stands as my most regrettable dvd purchase.

BTW, the U.S. Universal single disc Pianist picture/audio quality is spectacular. I wouldn't chance buying a 3-disc Canadian version that's known to be crap.

DDD sells The Pianist for a paltry $9.35 and if you must have the CD get it for cheap ($7.99 + $2.40 shipping) here:

I keep thinking of getting the 3-disc but since I already have the US one I'm probably gonna reconsider.

How many times has this same exact question been asked in the last 1 year I wonder! I'll say it ONE MORE TIME - go here to compare, and then go to their homepage and bookmark it. Have fun!

But doesn't the Canadian 3 disc version have DTS while the US version does not? My US version does not have DTS. Today I was reading about the KILLER DTS track on the Canadian version. However, from what I can tell there is no English DTS track....the DTS track is French. Is that correct????

BTW....it is a great movie!

Oui. Since the movie is French, everybody in it is speaking French. Hence, the DTS track is in......French.

That's correct, but French is the OSL, and the English dubbed track is terrible anyway. The French DTS track is incredible on the Canadian version. I recommend it, unless you have a huge screen, where the problems in the disc's picture might be more evident.

I realize the movie is french. My question was simply asking if there was a version that did have an English DTS track. The french movie does have a DD track. Hence, I stupidly assumed that it could have a DTS track in....... English.

Sorry to be a smartass. Dubbing of live-action movies is pretty inexcusable, though. Makes everything look like a cheap kung fu film. This French DTS track blows the doors off though; one of my very favorites (along with SPR, U-571 and the Led Zep DVD).

Couldn't disagree more . The documentaries are both interesting and informative , and show what looks like real onset footage , instead of the self conscious stuff we're usually served up with . Even better the Actors and director aren't afraid to criticise each other or the film , which makes a pleasant change from the glad handing , back slapping making ofs most Hollywood studios include . These count among the better BTS features I've seen .

Canadian disc: Director's Cut of movie, DTS track, much better English subtitles, lots of supplements, better cover art.

American disc: Slightly better picture transfer, theatrical cut of film, DD 5.1 only, poor English "dubtitles", fewer supplements, ugly cover art.

Make your decision accordingly.

Just a quick note that the French DTS track is phenomenal. It's incredibly LOUD and you can feel every sound effect. Even something as simple as a stick thwacking the ground produces some terrific bass.

I recently hooked up an Aura Bass Shaker to my chair. I love using this movie as a fun demo.

The 3 disc is the way to go. The transfers are about identical except the 1 disc U.S. version does handle compression a little better. However, the differences in the transfer and negligable. The 3 disc version has a superior DTS track, better cover, commentaries (if you understand french) and a FAT insert
