What is DVDAF's problem?

I went to add some DVD's to my DVDAF list today and as I was browsing my collection, I noticed the following next to where one of my DVD's used to be(they removed the DVD).

THIS ENTRY HAS BEEN DELETED
Probably because someone made a mistake like listing a bootleg, porn or an edition that does not really exist. To ensure entries retain the intended meaning make sure the correct information is in the database including studio, director and picture. Otherwise someone might "take it over" by supplying the missing information, or we may conclude it is not a legitimate title, consolidated it, etc... Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Thats all fine and dandy but I have no idea which DVD it was!
sigh...

p.s. It was between Swingers and Tapeheads if anybody has some sort of alphabetical list to help me out

Got a link to your collection?

Could it have possibly been the Bonus Disc for the Indiana Jones set?

DVDAF has removed all separate bonus disc material of they don't include documentaries, videos, etc. that are listed on the imdb.

They are trying to clear up the database. They've established an "Office of the Ombudsman" on the forum there to discuss which promos and such to allow.

The Best Buy South Park pilot promo disc was taken out, but was put back in the database.

Yeah, that's the one they took from mine. If they don't want to include the promos, that's fine by me. It's the real movies and shows that count in my opinion.

sorry if i'm misunderstanding this, but couldn't you just go to your actual collection and look or was this an entry in your wish list?

You would have to either remember or look on your shelf because the original entry is gone. The entry 'THIS ENTRY HAS BEEN DELETED' is listed alphabetically (under 'T'); not where the deleted title was.

Does Dvdprofiler list these. My "Master and Commander" bonus was deleted and my "Bond girls are Forever" promo was deleted.

DVDAf removed my Star Wars discs from my collection too. If they wish to censor my collection listing, that's their decision. And it just reinforces my decision... to maintain and host my list myself.

If you go to the DVDAF forums (Member Support forum), you will see that they are trying to keep the database in order. They have appointed two people to be in charge of approving bonus dics, etc. Before Ed came up with that solution, he deleted all the promos, etc. Just give the new guys some time to start re-adding some of the stuff. I was a bit surprised to find some of my stuff gone as well, but once I looked into it, I can see their reasonings. I do also keep a personal list of my collection...but I really like DVDAF a lot. Actually, I use DVDAF, Profiler and my own list. Me=Nerd. But in case anyone care, DVDAF is hands down my favorite listing site out there...

I love DVD AF but they need to upload the next batch of pictures. It's been a while (but a mere hiccup compared to Guzzlefish's total collapse).

I know that because I looked at your collection, and it showed the missing item was on my AFI 100 years 100 films wish list. I looked there, and it says in the comments (since I geekily include this info) that it's #15. And the #15 movie on the AFI list is Star Wars.

Since only bootlegs are currently available, I doubt they'll reinstate it, but you can just use the legit one they have on there now.

As you can see, it actually is alphabetically by movie title.

Nah, I dont own any Star Wars bootlegs. It would be impossible for me to find out which one it was by looking at my collection since I don't store them alphabetically.

btw, I am also a big fan of DVDAF, I am just a little aggravated that I dont know which title it is. No biggie

This seems to be a prime reason to use DVD Profiler. Not only can you enter stuff into the program and have it in YOUR listing but you dont have to have it added to the main database to do so. Also they arent removing this stuff -- if its got a UPC it can be added if it isnt there already.

Not to mention the listings are on your PC, you dont need your internet connection to access it....

guess I'm just tired of always popping in to defend dvdaf...but they dont need my help any longer. they are doing just fine and as usual....heading in the right direction. people need to cut them some slack and let things get worked out. I will use only them now...and will always use them in the future. if it was not for them...no NY Times write-up.

as far as missing titles....I dont really care if promo stuff and some other discs are counted. out of all my titles...I think only the Bond Girls dvd was removed. fine. I dont collect dvds from boxes of cereal, or porn or really anything else like that. ok....no porn except for the occasional Jess Franco or Joe D'Amato nasty. but then thats a whole different ballpark even though it's in a similar sport.

Thats the thing. I dont own any bootlegs that I know of(except for my Dances with Wolves DTS which I bought off of EBAY and seems to be one). I just was trying to figure out which title it is that is missing so I can add it properly.

Found this little tidbit in someone else's collection between Swingers and Tapeheads

*This used to be listed as the Star Wars bonus disc. It has since been deleted, as you can see.

can someone refresh my memory as to what the Star Wars bonus disc was?

Darn, I was so sure I was right since it said I had it on my list and all that. It must be some artifact of the way they cleaned it up.
